Procedure

How to Apply

1. To apply for the Emergency Travel Document or Emergency Certificate, you should visit the nearest Jamaican consulate to make your application, please see the consulates contact details through this link: Link
2. Contact the nearest embassy via telephone or email to determine if you need to book an appointment for your application since different embassies have different policies
3. If you need to book an appointment for your walk in application, to do so view the embassy’s website. Like in the case of the Consulate General of Jamaica New York City: Link
4. Book the appointment and obtain application form for emergency certificate form the consulate in person or download it form their website alongside the Jamaican passport application form which you can also obtain form the consulate office or download it form their website. You can also download the application forms directly form the links provided in the “Documents to Use” section below
5. Fill the application forms correctly then gather and attach all the required documents to the complete forms
6. On the date of the appointment, visit the embassy and submit you complete application to the embassy service provider officer
7. The embassy official will check your application if has all the required document and it is up to the required standard then the official will direct you to pay the application fees according to the embassy policy. I.e. type of currency and form of payment.
8. Pay the recommended application fee and obtain the payment receipt.
9. Upon payment, the emergency certificate will be processed and issued to you
10. Note that you can also submit your application via a registered mail address, please consult with your consulate if they offer this kind of service if you are unable to apply in person.
    

Note: Contact the airline company or the immigration authorities in the country you are supposed to go first and get a confirmation that they do accept emergency travel documents.

• Complete passport application form
• Completer Emergency certificate application form
• Birth Certificate or Expired Passport.
• Two Identical photographs (one should be certified by the certifying official who certified the application)
• Photo identification (if passport is unavailable)
• Police report if the passport is lost or stolen
• Confirmed travel reservation

Eligibility

• Jamaican citizens how have an expired passport, or it is lost, stolen or damaged beyond use and are in need to travel to Jamaica urgently can apply for the emergence certificate in lieu to passports

Fees

• Processing fee for Three business days $2,500 or next business day $5,000 however the fee may vary from different consulates

Validity

Explain the time until which the certificate/document is valid.

Instructions

• An Emergency Certificate is a one-way travel document designed for travel to Jamaica only and is not generally recognized by other territories, as it is neither bar-coded nor does it have an  expiry date. The applicant will be required to do a passport renewal or replacement once they are in Jamaica. In special circumstances, the Emergency Certificate may be prepared to facilitate travel to and from Jamaica.
