India - Online Apply Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN Card)
- Step 1 : First one has to make sure that all the required documents are in hand to apply online. If you would like to know about the documents that are required for this procedure, please visit the following link : Required Documents for Applying Tax Deduction Number (TAN Card)
- Step 2 : Please use the following link to apply online : Apply Online.
- Step 3 : In this page you can find the guidelines to apply for New TAN. Please read it carefully and select the “Category of Deductors” from the dropdown menu which is highlighted in Yellow in the below image. Then click “Submit” tab which is highlighted in RED.
- Step 4 : Now the application form will be displayed in the new screen. Enter all the mandatory details and click “Submit” tab at the bottom of the page which is highlighted in RED in the below image.
- Step 5 : After submission of your application form, in the next page, the completed application form will be available to verify the entered details. After verifying the details enter the code in the textbox and click “Confirm” tab which is highlighted in RED in the below image.
- Step 6 : After successful registration, a page will be displayed as shown in the below image. You can choose the appropriate options provided in the screen. Click “Acknowledgment” tab which is highlighted in RED in the below image to download the acknowledgment.
- Step 7 : Now the acknowledgment for TAN application will be generated. Download the file and take a printout.
- Step 8 : The acknowledgment duly signed along with demand draft, if any, shall be sent to NSDL at
- NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited,

- Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8,
- Model Colony,Near Deep Bungalow Chowk,
- Pune – 411016.
- Step 9 : The envelope should be superscribed as 'APPLICATION FOR TAN - Acknowledgment Number' (e.g. 'APPLICATION TAN - 88301020000244').
- Step 10 : Your acknowledgment and demand draft, if any, should reach NSDL within 15 days from the date of online application.
- Step 11 : Application will be processed only on receipt of duly signed acknowledgment and realisation of payment.
- Step 12 : Applications received with credit card / debit card / net banking as mode of payment will be issued a TAN within five working days. TAN will be intimated by e-mail. TAN allotment letter will be dispatched only on receipt of duly signed acknowledgment.
