Apply In-Person :

  1. To renew a Driver Licence in Himachal Pradesh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : RTO Office
  2. Application in Form No.9 is required. Application form can be obtained from the following link : Form 9
  3. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for renewal of driving Licence by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
  4. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  5. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  6. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  7. If the driver Licence renewal authority is satisfied with the application and the documents submitted, the driver Licence will be renewed.

  1. To renew driver license, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
  2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
  3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
  4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
  5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
  6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.



Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
  2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. An application form can be obtained through the kiosk operator upon visiting the centre.
  4. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  5. The operator will process the application online.
  6. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
  7. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page and collect the receipt.
  8. After the application form is processed, an enquiry officer will make a thorough verification regarding the documents submitted along with the form.
  9. Collect the acknowledgment slip after submitting the form.
  10. The applicant will get the license in a stipulated period of time.

EligibilityEdit

  1. An application for renewal shall be made not more than one month before the date of expiry of the License.
  2. If the application is late for more than five years after the date of expiry of the License, the applicant should undergo all the formalities to obtain a fresh License.

FeesEdit

  1. Renewal of Driving Licence - 200 INR
  2. Renewal of a driving licence for which application is made after the grace period – 300 INR
  3. Note : Additional fee at the rate of one thousand rupees for delay of each year or part thereof reckoned from the date of expiry of the grace period shall be levied.

ValidityEdit

A Driving license is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or till you turn 50 years of age, whichever happens earlier. However, if your license is for a commercial, passenger or goods vehicle it must be renewed after every three years.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  1. A Driving License is an official document certifying that the holder is suitably qualified to drive a motor vehicle.
  2. Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License issued to him and authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.
