Himachal Pradesh - Renew Motor Vehicle Driver License from Other State

You will not be able to renew your Motor Vehicle Driver License in Himachal Pradesh, if it has been obtained from other state in India. You would have to approach the RTO office of the place where the driver license has been obtained from, so that you can renew it. (Please check with local RTO whether NOC is required before processing)

Apply In-Person :

  1. To renew your Motor Vehicle Driver License in the state where you obtained the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your state and area belongs to.
  2. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for renewal of driving Licence by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
  3. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  4. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  5. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  6. If the driver Licence renewal authority is satisfied with the application and the documents submitted, the driver Licence will be renewed.

  1. As a first step, make sure you have all the required documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page
  2. In order to apply for online, please follow the link : online portal
  3. Please select "Online Services" from the menu and click on "Driver License Related Services".
  4. Please follow through the screen and make selections provided appropriately like...
    1. Select the Language (English / Hindi) and State as “Himachal Pradesh”
    2. In the following screen please select “Apply Online” to get a drop down menu.
    3. Please click “Services on Driving License” to proceed with completion of online application process.
  5. Fill up the application form on-line and upload the requested documents appropriately.
  6. You should reach the RTO office well before the appointment time as scheduled during online application process.
  7. From the time you reach RTO office, the procedure will be one which is applicable as per applying in person.

Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
  2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. An application form can be obtained through the kiosk operator upon visiting the centre.
  4. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  5. The operator will process the application online.
  6. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
  7. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page and collect the receipt.
  8. After the application form is processed, an enquiry officer will make a thorough verification regarding the documents submitted along with the form.
  9. Collect the acknowledgment slip after submitting the form.
  10. The applicant will get the license in a stipulated period of time.

    • Certificate issued by the Hostel Wardens in case of students residing in Hostels 11. *Marriage certificate by the Registrar of Marriages

    • Police Report from the concerned SHO
    • Employer certificate in case of Private Limited companies with identity card
    • House Allotment letter issued by the Govt. Department

EligibilityEdit

  1. Applicant must have a valid permanent motor vehicle driving license.
  2. Driving License which is expired or has validity for 30 days.
  3. The applicant should not be disqualified.

FeesEdit

For state of Himachal Pradesh :
  1. Renewal of Driving Licence - 200 INR
  2. Renewal of a driving licence for which application is made after the grace period – 300 INR
Note : Additional fee at the rate of one thousand rupees for delay of each year or part thereof reckoned from the date of expiry of the grace period shall be levied.

ValidityEdit

  1. License to drive a Non-Transport Vehicle is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the holder attains the age of 50 years, whichever is earlier. After that, the License is renewed every 5 years.
  2. Transport Vehicle License is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue or renewal.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  1. As per Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a valid Driving License is necessary to drive any motor vehicle on public roads
  2. In case of a person shifting / settling from one state to another will apply for renewing his license in the present state
  3. This renewed driving license will be considered as a proof of residence in the new state

Information which might helpEdit

  1. An application for renewal shall be made not more than one month before the date of expiry of the license.
  2. If the application is late for more than five years after the date of expiry of the license, the applicant should undergo all the formalities to obtain a fresh license.
