Procedure

You will not be able to renew your driver license in Himachal Pradesh, if it has been obtained from a different state in India. You would have to approach the RTO office of the place where the driver license has been obtained from, so you could renew it.

Apply In-Person :

1. To renew a Driver Licence in state where you obtained, the applicant has to approach the RTO office at which the driver license was obtained.
2. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for renewal of driving Licence by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
3. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
4. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
5. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
6. If the driver Licence renewal authority is satisfied with the application and the documents submitted, the driver Licence will be renewed.

You can do online renewal only for the state listed with the online portal.

1. As a first step, make sure you have all the required documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page
2. In order to apply for online, please follow the link : online portal
3. Please select "Online Services" from the menu and click on "Driver License Related Services".
4. Please follow through the screen and make selections provided appropriately like...
   1. Select the Language (English / Hindi) and State as applicable
   2. In the following screen please select “Apply Online” to get a drop down menu.
   3. Please click “Services on Driving License” to proceed with completion of online application process.
5. Fill up the application form on-line and upload the requested documents appropriately.
6. You should reach the RTO office well before the appointment time as scheduled during online application process.
7. From the time you reach RTO office, the procedure will be one which is applicable as per applying in person.

Apply through Centres:

1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
3. An application form can be obtained through the kiosk operator upon visiting the centre.
4. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
5. The operator will process the application online.
6. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
7. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page and collect the receipt.
8. After the application form is processed, an enquiry officer will make a thorough verification regarding the documents submitted along with the form.
9. Collect the acknowledgment slip after submitting the form.
10. The applicant will get the license in a stipulated period of time.

Need for the Document

1. A Driving License is an official document certifying that the holder is suitably qualified to drive a motor vehicle.
2. Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License issued to him, authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.

1. An application for renewal shall be made not more than one month before the date of expiry of the license.
2. If the application is late for more than five years after the date of expiry of the license, the applicant should undergo all the formalities to obtain a fresh license.
