The owner shall obtain renewal of registration certificate in respect of Non-Transport vehicles after 15 years from the date of its registration. Application for renewal of registration certificate shall be made within SIXTY (60) DAYS before the date of its expiry.
Apply In-Person :
- To renew certificate of vehicle registration in Himachal Pradesh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : RTO Office
- Application in HP CMV FORM 20 is required. Application forms can be obtained from the following link : Form 20
- Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
- Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
- Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
- Pay the fees at the cash counter
- Produce the vehicle for inspection. (FC – is the process of refurbishing the vehicle for renewal of registration)
- Once the inspection is through, the inspector will verify the engine and chassis numbers
- You will get an Acknowledgement slip with which can you can collect the updated documents next day or the day mentioned in the slip

- Visit the following portal: portal.
- Now select the state from the drop down menu.
- After selecting the state the applicant will be redirected to the vahan parivahan website.
- On the new page on the left side there is a box to select state and RTO, click on proceed.
- Select online services to “Apply for Transfer of Ownership, Change of Address, Hypothecation [Addition/Continuation/Termination], Duplicate RC]”.
- Enter the vehicle details such as Vehicle Registration No. and Chassis Number (Last 5 characters) and click on the “Verify Details” button.
- Now the complete details of the vehicle will be visible.
- Now select the desired option.
- Fill in all the details and pay the application fees.
- Check the notification address to get the certificate in a stipulated period of time.
Apply through Centres:
- To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
- Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- An application form can be obtained through the kiosk operator upon visiting the centre.
- It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
- The operator will process the application online.
- On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
- Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page and collect the receipt.
- After the application form is processed, an enquiry officer will make a thorough verification regarding the documents submitted along with the form.
- Collect the acknowledgment slip after submitting the form.
- The applicant will get the license in a stipulated period of time.

- Owner of the vehicle can apply for renewal of RC.
- The owner of the Non transport vehicle should apply for renewal of Registration Certificate after Completion of 15 years from the date of original registration. The registration should be renewed prior to 60 days of the expiry of the registration.

- A vehicle registration certificate is valid for 15 years from the date of issue and can be renewed for a period of 5 years after expiry.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, all vehicles either transport or non-transport should renew their registration of vehicle after a period of time as allowed
- For Non transport type vehicle like car, bike etc. need to be renewed after 15 years and 5 years afterwards
- For transport type vehicles like bus the renewal is required for every year
- As long as it is considered road worthy by the department.

- While applying - Documents can be made in duplicate if the vehicle is held under an agreement of Hire-purchase / Lease / Hypothecation and Duplicate copy with the endorsement of the Registering Authority to be returned to the financier simultaneously on registration of motor vehicle.
- Make sure all lights and horn are in good condition. Also, the vehicle should look neat and clean
