Procedure[edit]
- To apply for an ID card for minors, the child and his/her legal representative must visit the town hall.
- Complete and submit an application along with all necessary supporting documents.
- The application form is available at the counter. Make sure to fill in the form correctly and do not forget to sign the form.
- The documents you will be required to submit will depend on the child's situation. Note: You may also need to set up an appointment in order to submit your application.
- The identity card is not manufactured on site and therefore it can not be issued immediately. The amount of time for an identity card to be issued depends on where and when was the application submitted.
Monitoring your application:
If you have provided your mobile number on the form, you will receive notification via SMS informing you that you may now collect your identity card. Note: This service is not available for applications submitted in Paris or overseas.
Collecting the Identity Card
The card must be withdrawn by the minor's representative (the one who filed the application)
The card must be collected 3 months after its availability. After this time, the new card will be destroyed.
Required Documents[edit]
The documents you will be required to submit will depend on the child's situation.
If the child have a passport:
- If it is still valid:
- Two (2) identical passport photographs (must meet standards)
- ID of the parent who files the application: original and photocopy
- Proof of address: original and photocopy
- The child's passport: original and photocopy
- If the passport has expired:
- Two (2) identical passport photographs (must meet standards)
- ID of the parent who files the application: original and photocopy
- Proof of address: original and photocopy
- The child's passport (electronic or biometric) expired less than 5 years: original and photocopy
- If the passport is older: the child's birth certificate issued less than 3 months ago (extract or affiliation with full copy): Original
- If the birth certificate does not prove the applicant's nationality: an original and photocopy of proof of French nationality
If the minor do not have a passport:
- Two (2) identical passport photographs (must meet standards)
- ID of the parent who files the application: original and photocopy
- Proof of address: original and photocopy
- The child's birth certificate issued less than 3 months ago (extract or affiliation with full copy): Original
- If the birth certificate does not prove the applicant's nationality: an original and photocopy of proof of French nationality

Eligibility[edit]
You can apply for an identity card for all minors regardless of age (even a baby), provided the minor is of French nationality.

Processing Time[edit]
The identity card is not manufactured on site and therefore it can not be issued immediately. The amount of time for an identity card to be issued depends on where and when was the application submitted. For example, processing time for requests submitted before summer vacation may be longer.

- The minor's presence at the filing of the application is required.
- The minor must be accompanied by a person exercising parental authority (parent or guardian) who will be required to present its own ID at the counter.
