Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for renewal of Work Permit for Professionals in Ghana is available in the Ghana Visa Application Centre (VAC) or immigration office or Ghana Immigration Service Centre (GIS). contact link
2. Applicant can get their application form for a permanent resident permit.
3. Applicant must provide the necessary information in the application form.
4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required
5. for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
6. Applicant should attach photocopies of the documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant while submitting it at the office.
7. Then submit the complete application dossier to the GIS official at the Work residence Permit Unit - Employment Division service desk.
8. The official will verify the application to confirm if the form is completed as required and check if all the required supporting documents have been provided.
9. After the verification process, the applicant will be issued with the acknowledgment receipt of the application.
10. The official will evaluate the application and if it meets the required standards, the application will be approved for processing.
11. The applicant will then be notified of the approval through his/her contact details and the applicant will be required to pay the prescribed work permit fees and annual fees within one month of the approval. Pay the required work resident permit fees and the annual fees at the GIS cashier desk within the one-month period. Please refer to the fee details in the “Fees” section of this page.
12. Upon payment, the work permit will be renewed and issued to the applicant.
13. Even in the case of changes (address, work, status, marital status and transfer to another district, etc.) the renewal should be made on the same residence permit document.
14. The Processing time for this procedure takes 2- 4 weeks.

Validity

• Work residence permit card and Visa for settlement are usually valid for three (3) years.

• For foreigners who are able to secure a job in Ghana, the next step is to apply for both a work permit and a residence permit. Applications for resident permits must go through the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), and most employers should be able to assist with this process.

Need for the Document

• Renewal work resident permit application forms are obtainable at the Ghanaian Immigration Services (GIS) office. The form requires three classes of information: Company, Employee, and Employment contract details.
• Relevant and accurate information must be provided in all sections to enable the GIS to effectively assess and the application on its own merits and take the appropriate decisions.
• The application forms should be signed by an authorized representative of the employer.
• The person who signs the application must attach relevant documents as a proof that he is an officer of the company (passport, a copy of residence permit etc).
