To Apply for Registration or Re-registration of Imported Raw Materials in Ghana, the applicant should contact the Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) office Contact link
Applicant must obtain the application form for Registration or Re-registration of Imported Raw Materials.
These forms must be filled with the necessary details and submitted to the FDA office.
The importer should present a letter of invitation for the inspection of the factory/warehouse stating the full location or address of the manufacturer, name of contact person, current phone and fax numbers and e-mail address.
The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
All documents to be submitted for registration must be bound together.
Applications submitted must be completed within 3months from initial application submission date or else the client shall be required to reapply.
Only company owners and/or competent company representatives with adequate knowledge of the company must complete the application form.
The applicant must attach all the documents in the application form and submit it to the FDA office.
The registration of any food product with the FDA is a very slow process and can take between one or two months to be completed from the date samples are submitted for laboratory tests.
Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes up to 1 or 2 months.

EligibilityEdit

All food products imported, advertised, sold or distributed in the country must first be registered with the FDA under section 18 and 25 of the Food and Drugs Law, 1992 (PNDCL 305B) and section 4(b) of the Food and Drugs (Amendment) Act 523, 1996.
Only corporate bodies duly registered by the Registrar- General’s Department and licensed by the
Board shall be permitted to import a product.
All products imported shall have at least 60% of its shelf-life remaining on arrival at the port. This
Notwithstanding, products with a shelf-life of less than 24 months shall have at least 80% of its shelf-life remaining, on arrival at the port of entry.
Only registered products shall be permitted to be imported.

ValidityEdit

The registration of imported raw materials is valid for three (3) years and must be renewed by the end of the third year.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Registration of importer is a pre-requisite for import of goods. The Customs will not allow clearance of goods unless the importer has obtained IEC Number from issuing authority.

Information which might helpEdit

The product labelling should be in English
The label must have the contact details of the local distributor/marketer/representative of the product
The label must indicate clearly the product’s mineral composition, volume, net weight, place of manufacturing
Food product labels must not contain any adjective describing the product as having superior/additional health and nutritional benefits. This contravenes UN convention on food labelling.
The storage facility for your food products must be fumigated by a pest control company before the storage facility can be licensed.
