ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Register International Non-Governmental Organisation (Foreign NGO) in Ghana, the applicant must go to the Registrar General Department or non-Profit Organization secretariat.
  2. Address and contact details can be found in the following link or link
  3. Applicants provide 3 business/ organization name for search for availability of a name.
  4. Processing fee of GHS 1000 is charged for the name search and reservation.
  5. To reserve the available name, the applicant has to obtain an Application for Reservation of Name from the relevant department.
  6. Once a name has been approved, it is reserved for a period of sixty (60) days.
  7. Fill in the name reservation form as required and submit it for the process of reserving the company name.
  8. When the name has been reserved, the applicant can proceed to apply for registering the organization.
  9. Visit the non-Profit Organization secretariat and the applicant must obtain the application form.
  10. Applicant must fill all the information in the application form.
  11. Please make sure that the applicant has all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  12. Minutes of the meeting seeking registration and showing elected officials must be attached to the Application form.
  13. List of members duly signed with Name/Position/ID Number and Signatures must be attached to the Application form.
  14. Attach all the documents to the forms before submission of application to the authority.
  15. Pay the Approved Registration fee of GHS.5, 000/= and lodge the application at the office of the Social Protection officer.
  16. Applicant should then proceed to pay the applicable application fees. A Processing fee of GHS. 16,000 is charged for national NGOs and GHS.30,000 for International NGOs and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  17. It takes 30 days to be registered. If approved, an acknowledgement of registration is issued by the Respective Office.

  • 4 copies of “the companies code”
  • 4 copies of the “returns of particulars of the company under section 27 (i) of the companies code on incorporation
  • Activity report
  • Identity proof (if any)
  • Passport (mandatory)
  • Proof of evidence (electricity/ telephone/ mobile bill or bank statement)
  • Registered office address proof (rent agreement if the premises is not owned by the company)
  • Registration fees receipt.

  • Application fees GHS. 16,000 is charged for national NGOs and GHS.30, 000 for International NGOs.

  • A registered NGO can also qualify for financial assistance from government agencies and local, national and international donors.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • An NGO needs to be registered for it to carry out its objectives in Ghana. After registration, the NGO is given an operating permit, which allows them to operate in Ghana.
