Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Slaughter House Inspection License in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Food and drugs authority(FDA) regional office in Accra contact link
2. Then, the applicant must obtain the application form for slaughter house license from FDA office or download the application form from this link
3. Read carefully through the application form as there contain different section.
4. Make sure that his/her have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page.Pay the processing fees, upon which his/her will be issued with a receipt.
6. Please complete each section of this application form as a Word document then submit a printed version of the completed form, along with the supporting documents (listed below) to the FDA regional office or the head office for verification and processing.
7. The FDA will dispatch an inspector to the facility premises for inspection to determine if all the safety equipment’s, ventilation, suitable of the facility location, employees have the right working gear, drainage system, storage ,availability of water [e.tc Link])
8. A copy of the report finding will be given to the applicant and if any modification or upgrading is required, Corrective Action and Preventive Action Report (CAPA) report will be issued and you will be required rectify the problem.
9. Upon successful implementation of the CAPA, a follow-up inspection may be conducted by the inspection team to ascertain the effectiveness of the implementation (where applicable).
10. If the authorized official is satisfied that all the conditions are meet as required for the application, you will be notified of the outcome and issued with the licence.
11. Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes1 month.

• Companies need to be in possession of a valid company registration certificate copy.
• License fee as stated in the food and drugs authority’s fees schedule.
• Sketch of exact directions to the Slaughter facility, indicating land marks.
• Any other documents that may be request by the FDA.
• Proof of land registration certificate.

Note: A copy of the submitted documents shall be endorsed by the FDA and returned to the applicant.

• The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), formerly, Food and Drugs Board (FDB) is the regulatory authority with the responsibility of implementing the Food and Drugs Law of 1992, (PNDCL 305b). Part seven of the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851 mandates the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to protect and promote public health by ensuring that food and drugs consumed in Ghana are wholesome and safe.

Need for the Document

• All animals intended for human consumption and admitted to the licensed slaughterhouses for slaughtering and dressing are subject to both ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections.
