Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. Applicant who would like to Apply for Electrician License or Permit in Ghana, the applicant should contact the electricity company of Ghana or energy company in Ghana contact link
2. Applicant should approach the electricity office and the applicant obtains the application form from energy department.
3. Applicant must make sure to carry all the necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.( Both photocopies and originals)
4. Fill the application and submit the application along with the required fees and payment, and scanned copies of the documents. Fees listed in the “Fees” section of this page.
5. Once the application is submitted, a scrutiny of the application by Junior Assistant will be carried out.
6. Then, the scrutiny of application by Electrical Inspector will be carried out.
7. If it is accepted, the scrutiny of application by the Member Secretary will be carried out.
8. If it is accepted, an admit card for the examination will be provided to the applicant.
9. The applicant must then appear for the examination on the specific date.
10. Once the results are out, the certificate/permit will be issued to the qualified candidates.
11. The processing time for this procedure takes 90 days.

• Testimonials of practical experience as an Electrical workman from any Licensed Contractor/Registered Company
• Scanned copy of Passport size photograph.
• Treasury Challan.
• Age proof Certificate. (PAN Card, School leaving certificate, Ghana card, Birth certificate issued by Corporation / Municipality)
• Address proof (Domicile certificate / Ghana Card)
• ITI Electrician pass certificate.
• NCVT certificate.

Eligibility

• The applicant must be a domicile of Ghana.
• The applicant should possess workmen Permit Class VIII pass.
• The applicant should possess Electrician Certificate of Competency Degree in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or must be a person with 10 (Ten) years’ experience in electrical works.

Fees

• A fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.

Validity

• The permits are to be renewed once in 5 years.

For the next two decades, ECG was to remain the entity solely responsible for electricity supply and the distribution networks nationwide.
