Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To Apply for Electrical Wiring Professional Certificate (CEWP) in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Ghana Energy Commission Office contact link
2. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
3. Attach a signed letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission and all required documents andthey can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. Applicants to be licensed for Inspection and testing of: (check all that apply)
   • Domestic elect installation
   • Commercial elect installation
   • Industrial elect installation
5. Applicants will be required to produce the following as evidence of electrical wiring works carried out:
   • Form A, B, & Minor Works Form (Used & Unused)
   • Copies of Basic Test Sheets (If available)
6. The applicant should make sure are eligible for Apply for Electrical Wiring Professional Certification Examinationby reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility “of this page.
7. Payment of Processing Fees must be made to Ghana Commercial BankGHS250 to Energy Commission – Electrical Wiring RegulationAccount No. 1011130039212, High Street Branch and attach proof of paymentand that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
8. Submit the completed application form and all required documents at the office of the Energy Commission, Ghana Airways Avenue, Airport Residential Area, in person or by courier.
9. The submitted details will be verified by respective receiving authority. If all the details and documents are in place, application will be accepted.
10. Applicant will get a receipt as acknowledgement for the submission of application.
11. This application will be processed by the respective department.
12. Applicant gets notification about the issuance.
13. After seeing this notification, the applicant can go to the respective office and the applicants get their certificate.
14. The processing time for this procedure is 90 days.

Eligibility

• The applicant should possess Electrical wiring professional Certificate of Competency Degree in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or must be a person with 10 (Ten) years’ experience in electrical works.
• The Certified Electrical Wiring Professional-Inspector Certificate is issued to qualified personnel certified to undertake Inspection and Testing in accordance with the full implementation of the Electrical Wiring Regulation, 2011, L.I.2008.

• The Ghana Electrical Wiring Regulations 2011, (L.I. 2008) were passed into law by Parliament on Friday 24th February, 2012 as one of the responses to the spate of electrical fires that had occurred in the country. The key objectives of the Regulations are to ensure that only properly qualified and certified professionals engage in electrical wiring and installation works, to well defined standards that would promote the safety of persons, property and livestock. Under these regulations, only Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals (CEWPs), qualified under the regulations, will be legally entitled to undertake indoor electrical wiring projects.

Need for the Document

• This certificate entitles the holder to carry out all types of electrical installation work in Ghana without supervision. A person shall not carry out any electrical installation work unless the person is licensed by the Commission as an electrician.
