Germany - Obtain a Marriage Certificate
ProcedureEdit
- The couple presents the necessary documents required for them to get married to the registrar.
- The registrar checks if the documents are as required
- The registrar officiates the wedding
- The registrar makes sure that the couple fill and signs necessary documents and they are delivered to the registrars office.
- The couple getting married is then issued with a marriage certificate
- The request to obtain a certificate has to be done in writing (in German) with a letter addressed to the "Standesamt" of the place (Village, Township, and City) where you got married.
- Indicate the appropriate names and dates, reason for your request, and proof of your relationship to the individual(s), including proof of your identity.
- Do not forget to mention your name and address.
- Information on the fee will be sent to you with the certificate

- If you got married in another country, the document that you were given can be recognized at your German registrars office.
- Identification document (e.g. passport, identity card)
- Letter of application addressed to the German registrars office requesting the office to issue the certificate.

EligibilityEdit
After a marriage has been contracted before a registrar or a foreign marriage certificate have been recognized at the registrars office in Germany.
Since the records are kept public anyone can request a marriage certificate provided he or she provides a good reason for requesting this document.

You need to check with your local registrars office since this fee differs on several number of situations.
ValidityEdit
- This certificate is valid until one or both applicants are deceased.
- It can also become invalid in the case of divorce or legal separation.

- Application should be filed with the registrar's office where either party has his or her residence.
- If neither party has a residence in the Federal Republic of Germany, the central registrar's offices should be contacted.
- The procedure of obtaining this document starts when you start planning for your wedding. So once you have completed all the requirements you and your partner need to be present at the registrars office to get married. Once that is done the registrar issues the newlyweds a marriage certificate.

A marriage certificate is an official recorded document issued by a governmental authority that proves that the couple listed on the marriage certificate have a legal marriage.
In Germany, marriage may only be contracted before a registrar. Once you have gotten married, you will be issued with a new document by the register office: the marriage certificate. It proves that two people have been legally wedded.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
This document proves that a marriage between two people is recognized by the Federal republic of Germany. If the need arises, the document can be produced or requested to show the relationship i.e. the wife or husband may be requested to produce it to prove that he or she is still married to the other person in relation to the scenario.
