Citizenship represents the link between a person and a state or an association of states. Possession of citizenship is normally associated with the right to work and live in a country and to participate in political life.

Fiji Citizenship is governed by "Citizenship of Fiji Decree 2009." This is Decree No 23 and was introduced in July 2009. Fiji has permitted dual citizenship since April 10, 2009. Those born in Fiji acquire citizenship unless the parents have diplomatic immunity or neither parent is a Fiji citizen. Those married to a Fiji citizen may apply for citizenship once they have been lawfully present in. Fiji for at least 3 of the 5 years preceding the application.
