Procedure

Apply In Person

1. To Apply for visa Extension, applicant has to approach the Ministry of Foreign Affairs location link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the respective officer.
3. Applicant has to fill in all necessary details in the application form.
4. Make sure the applicant has all the documents in hand that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required document along with the application form.
6. Submit the application form along with the documents to the concerned officer.
7. After successful submission the authorities will verify your application and validate the submitted documents.
8. After verification process, authority will extend the visa to the applicant in stipulated period of time.

Apply Online

1. To Apply for visa Extension through online, the applicant has to approach Ethiopian Immigration Nationality and Vital Event Agency or tap the following online link
2. The applicant has to enter the passport number and reference number.
3. Click the captcha verification and click on “Continue” button.
4. Then the applicant has to enter their personal details and submit the required documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Review the application and submit the application using appropriate button.
6. After verification process, authority will notify, the status of application or check the application status using the following link: - link
7. Thereafter applicant shall obtain the extended visa

Required Documents

• Passport with at least 6 months of validity from the date you intend to enter the country

For GV and GIV visas

• Supporting letter from the relevant government institution

For WV and PE visas

• Supporting letter from the relevant company /business organization
• Renewed /valid business license of company /business organization

For IV visas

• Supporting letter from the office of Investment Commission of the Government of Ethiopia

For RI visas

• Support letter from international organization or embassy who invited the applicant.
• Note verbale or support letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Ethiopia.

Eligibility

• Any person who intends to extend their visa are eligible to make this application.

Fees

The extension fee depends on the number of times the applicant is requesting for a visa extension. An additional service charge of USD 2 will also be added.

• If the visa is being extended for the first time, there shall be an additional 100% charge above the initial e-visa application fee.
• If extended for the second time for up to 15 days, there shall be an additional 150% charge above the initial e-visa application fee.
• If extended for the third time for 10 up to days, there shall be an additional 200% charge above the initial e-visa application fee.

E.g. If an applicant who applied for single entry 30 days visa is extending his/her visa for the first time, the visa extension fee will be USD 102. This means, USD 50 (initial visa application fee) + USD 50 (additional visa extension charge) + USD 2(Service Charge)

• Nationals of African States who can't make e-Visa payment online can apply online and make the payment on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in cash.
• Please carefully read and comply to the important notices and guidelines stated in each step of the application form.
• The validity of Ethiopian e-Visa starts from the date you intend to enter Ethiopia not from date of issue.
• Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you intend to enter Ethiopia.
• e-Visa application fees are not refundable
• A passport size photo and scanned copy of passport is required.
