Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Obtain a Temporary Vehicle Import Permit in person, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Transportation in Egypt Location link
2. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
3. Applicant should read carefully in the application form, after all details must be filled in the application form.
4. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
6. Submit the completed form along with the supporting documents to the respective office.
7. If all the above mentioned procedures were followed properly by the applicant, the application form will be viewed by concerned authorities and the applicant will be notified regarding their permit.
8. After getting the notification from concerned authorities, applicant can visit the office to collect their document.
9. If there is no information regarding the application, then, the applicant can visit the office to know status of the application.
10. The Processing time for this procedure is 1 week.

Required Documents

• Valid passport of the driver.
• Vehicle registration book in the name of the driver.
• Letter of authority from the registered owner if vehicle is not owned by the driver.
• Temporary exportation document from the Customs authorities in the country from where the visitor is coming from.

Eligibility

Types of vehicles eligible for temporary import permit (TIP)

• Passenger type motor vehicles commonly known as saloon cars or sedans and station wagons.
• Goods carrying motor- vehicles with a gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5 tonnes such as pick-ups and double cabs
• Passenger carrying motor vehicles with a seating capacity not exceeding 15 people including the driver
• Trailers and caravans pulled by the above vehicles.

Fees

• Cross rate $1.00
• Light motor Vehicle $10.
• Minibus $10.
• Third party insurance is payable at $30 per month for small private vehicles.

Validity

• Valid for 90 days or depending on the Visa permit entry into Egypt.

Need for the Document

• All visitor to Egypt bringing in a foreign registered private vehicle may be issued with a Temporary Import Permit (TIP) by Egypt Revenue Authority and upon entry into Egypt.
• Any person who is not resident in Kenya but travels to Egypt for a period of time specified at the time of their arrival. This includes Egypt working or living in other countries and with valid residence or work permits of those particular countries.
