1. Police Clearance Certificate can be applied at the office of the Prosecutor General throughout the country.

• Valid identity document (identity card, passport, driving license).
• Valid passport.
• A photocopy of both sides of your Dominican national identification card (cédula)

Foreign national

• A copy of your passport while living in Dominican Republic.
• A copy of your permit of stay in Dominican Republic, passport number and place of issue as well.
• Proofs of legal stay (copy of passport held during the said period with respective stamp and seal).

• Applicant with valid passport and a valid address proof.
• Age: 16 years and above. In case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 16 years.
• The current address of the applicant must be same as in the passport and other supporting documents.
• Applicants who are in need of residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

Need for the Document

A police certificate is an official document issued by police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may or may not have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings.

It is the applicants responsibility to contact the relevant authorities to obtain the necessary police certificates or clearances. Each countrys procedures are different. Applicants may have to apply to more than one level of government or more than one agency - municipal, provincial, state, federal and the police, courts or similar governmental agencies for the police certificate. If a police certificate cannot be obtained from any of the countries on the list, provide a written explanation why and an original letter from the police authority confirming that it will not issue a certificate.

Information which might help

Police certificates are required from every applicant age 18 or over for each locality of the country of the applicant's nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of 18. Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

In many immigration cases you may be requested by relevant Government to present Police Clearance Certificate from another country where you have resided for some time. If you are going through immigration process, you will definitely be asked for such a certificate.

The Dominican Republic in common with most other countries requires a police clearance certificate from any applicant for a visa (other than a tourist card) authorizing a long stay (up to of sixty days). This now also applies to applicants for temporary working visas. The Police Clearance Certificate is required from the appropriate authorities in the country in which the applicant resides. Also since application for some visas is made from within the country a police clearance certificate (or Certificate of Good Behavior) from the The Dominican Republic authorities themselves will be needed.
