Procedure

Apply In Person

1. To Obtain Authorization to Use the CFHT Telescope (CFHT), the applicant has to approach the respective university.
2. Prepare a research proposal outlining the scientific objectives of your study, the significance of your research, and the specific observations you wish to conduct using the CFHT Telescope.
3. Your proposal should demonstrate the potential impact of your research and how it aligns with the capabilities of the CFHT Telescope.
4. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
5. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
6. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
7. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
8. Submit all the documents with the completed letter to the concerned officer.
9. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
10. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
11. Then the application will be processed further.
12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
13. If your proposal is successful, you will be granted authorized observing time on the CFHT Telescope.
14. If your proposal is accepted, you will be scheduled to use the CFHT Telescope during the designated observing periods. You may also have the option to conduct remote observations from your home institution.
15. This entire process can be completed within 15 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
