Procedure

Apply in-Person

1. To obtain a vehicle import or export clearance certificate, the applicant must bring the motor vehicle for physical inspection together with supporting documents to the designated clearing police establishments. (Contact details are listed below).

   • Please consult with the police station first, if booking for an inspection visit is required before heading to their offices.

2. Express your interest at the police station, front desk and submit the relevant supporting documents (listed below) to be validated by the authorized officer and have the vehicle inspected.
3. The application is then assessed by the authorized authority, based on the vehicle inspection report findings and documents that you have provided, and if complying; the application will be approved,
4. The relevant clearance certificate will be drawn up, signed, and stamped by the authorized officer and issued to the applicant against his/her identity document:

   • Botswana Police Form BP17A (Motor Vehicle Clearance for Export Only) for export to Non-Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) countries
   • SARPCCO Motor Vehicles Clearance Certificate for exported motor vehicles to SARPCCO countries
   • Botswana Police Form BP17B (Motor Vehicle Clearance for Registration Only) for imported motor vehicles

• Valid identification documents (Omang, Residents Permits or passports)
• Authorization letter (In the case where the person applying is not the owner of the vehicle

Applicants with new vehicles must bring the following documents:

• Purchase Invoice
• SARPCCO Clearance Certificate

Applicants with used vehicles must bring the following documents: SARPCCO Countries:

• SARPCCO Clearance Certificate (valid for 90 days.)
• Invoice
• Registration Book
• Non-SARPCCO Countries:
• Invoice
• Bill of Lading (e.g. for imports. Japan, Singapore, etc)

• The owner of the motor vehicle or any other person authorized by the owner in writing to process clearance on their behalf

Fees

• No fee associate with the service
