Procedure

How to Apply
Apply In-Person

1. All license holders that wish to transfer their license to another person/company or change their operating location should apply for transfer of trader license at the Town or District Council commercial affairs offices; {see address and contact details below}.
2. Collect the application forms i.e. {Notice Form of Intention to Transfer a Trade Licence and Application form for transfer of Trade license} from the Town or District council commercial affairs offices or use the links below to download;

3. Submit the completed forms attached to the supporting documents as “mentioned under required documents section below} to be verified by the attending official at the Town or District council commercial affairs offices.
4. The official will then verify your application file and if all the documents and information are in order, he/she will issue you an acknowledgement receipt containing the application details.
5. The application file will be forward to the licensing committee for approval and processing which will take five business days to complete.
6. Applicants will then be notified of the outcome via Mail, phone or SMS, if your application was successful, visit the Town or District council commercial affairs office, you had file the application with and collect the duplicate transfer trader license, upon payment of applicable licence fees and against your identification document and acknowledgement slip.

Required Documents

• A certified copy of a valid National Identity card (Omang) for owners, shareholders or directors who are citizens.
• Certified copy of passport, work and residence permit for owners, shareholders or directors who are non-citizens.
• Certificate of incorporation or registration and the latest Form of Annual Return
• Valid Satisfactory health inspection report. {The report should be 1-3 weeks}
• Copy of original licence

Eligibility

Transfer of trader license is only applicable in the following circumstance;

• The licensee is a citizen or wholly citizen owned company of Botswana holding a reserved licence, to another citizen or wholly owned citizen company;
• The licence issued is in respect of specified premises, to other premises within the same licensing area;
• The licensee has died, to his heir or beneficiary;
• the licensee has been declared insolvent or has surrendered his estate for the benefit of his creditors, to his trustees; or
• The licensee becomes subject to any legal disability, to his legal representatives.

Fees

Fees for transfer license application:

• Non-refundable application fee of BWP 100.00.
• License duplicate is BWP 100.00.

Validity

• The license is valid for one year and renewable thereafter

• Type of License
• Physical address of new premise
• Date of application
• Applicant’s signature
• Declaration by the applicant

Need for the Document

• "Transferring a licence" means reissuing a licence for a trade or business to a person other than the person who holds or has held the licence in respect of the trade or business.
  
• Transfer of a trade license shall not be valid unless approved by the licensing committee formed by the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry.
