Botswana - Temporary Registration of a Foreign Veterinary Surgeon

Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. The application to obtain a Temporary Registration certificate as a Foreign Veterinary Surgeon shall be to the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) office Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOH)​ Office Location & Contact Details
  2. Applicants are required to collect and complete the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) Registration Form, obtainable at any of the BHPC offices or download it via the MoH Website,(Form is located under the Botswana Health Professions Council section) or directly download it using this link-BHPC Registration Form
  3. The completed form attached to the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page should be submitted to the BHPC office for consideration.
  4. On submission of the application file, the BHPC Registration & Licensing office will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
  5. If the officer is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the permit the application file is registered and the applicant is issued with an acknowledgement slip as proof of submission of the application and and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
  6. The application file will then be forwarded to the Botswana Health Professions Council committee board for assessment and evaluation.
  7. After a successful evaluation phase, when all regulatory requirements for approval of the license are satisfactorily met, the applicant will then be summoned by the BHPC and required to take a written test and interview by the BHPC committee board.
  8. The BHPC committee board reserve the right to request additional information relevant to the application. In such a case, the information must be submitted within the stipulated time from the date of notification. Where the applicant fails to submit the required information, the application shall be rejected.
  9. Upon completion of the examination the applicant will be required to pay an application fee of BWP 30.00 as per the BHCP preferable payment mode and obtain a BHPC payment slip.
  10. Only applicants who have successfully passed the interview and examination, will be registered with the BHPC and issued with a BHCP Registration Certificate/ Practice certificate.
  11. Proceed to the BHPC office and present the acknowledgment letter and identity document and the proof of payment of the license fee to be validated by the registrar and collect the certificate.


Note: Health Professional who are employed/work in the Private health sector are also required to be registered and license by the Ministry of Health & Wellness at no extra cost, upon obtain the BHCP Registration Certificate.

Required Documents

  • Duly completed-BHPC Registration Form
  • Certified copy of passport details (non citizens) or Omang (citizens).
  • Four passport size photographs [there has to be an endorsement for true likeness].
  • Certified evidence of change of name or surname [if applicable].
  • Certified copy of certificate of qualifications.
  • Certified copy of evidence of internship(for graduates who are registering for the first time) or transcript.
  • Current curriculum vitae.
  • Application letter.
  • Application fee (P30) payable after examination.
  • Certified copy of Current Practicing License and Registration Certificate.
  • Original of certificate of good standing from previous registration body (not more than 6 months old)
  • Two recent professional references (Originals in headed paper or letter head not more than 6 months.).
  • All applicants from non English Speaking Countries must show proof of proficiency in English (having passed IELTS test, attained an overall score of 7 or greater)

Eligibility

Certified Foreign Veterinary Surgeon that wishes to work in Botswana temporary are eligible to apply.

Fees

Application fee (P30) payable after examination.

Validity

  • The validity of the practice license is mentioned on the license and it shall remain valid for that specified period unless revoked, cancelled, or suspended by the authority.
  • The license renewal period is from 1st April to 30th June of any given financial year.

Need for the Document

  • All Health professional (citizens & foreigner) are required to be registered with the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) which is a body under the Ministry of Health.
  • It is illegal to employ a health professional who is not registered with BHPC or who does not have a valid practicing certificate as stipulated by the Health Professions act (Cap 61.02).
