Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for Tax registration for a company in Botswana, you should submit your application to the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS). Please view the BURS contact details via this link: Link
2. Obtain that application form from any of the BURS office in person or download the form through the BURS website:Link (APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION AS A TAXPAYER _BURS 1)
3. Obtain all the relevant forms that are supposed to support the application and prepare all the required document, forms, and a checklist can be obtained from the BURS office
4. Complete the application form BURS 1 and attach all the required supporting documents and completed forms i.e. For private companies, the following forms should be completed, certified, and attached to Form BURS 1:

   • Form 4 - Certificate of Incorporation
   • Form 2A - List of Directors and Secretaries
   • Form 2B - Consent and certificate of Director(s)
   • Form 2C - Details on share capital
   • Form 2D - Consent of Directors on share capital
   • Note: Every director and secretary listed in Form 2A should complete Form 2B.

5. Once all the forms have been complete, signed, and certified where required, attach the rest other supporting document and visit the BURS office in your locality and pay the relevant fees at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt
6. Then submit the application to the BURS official at the service desk for verification
7. The official will check if your application is complete as required and then forward it for processing
8. The application will be assessed and if it meets the required standards for registration, your company will be registered with BURS for taxation and you will be issued your business tax identification number

Apply Online

1. To apply for Company tax registration online, you have to visit the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) website to submit your application
2. Visit the BURS website:Link and open the “eService” hyperlink under the information bar then select “eTax” to go to the login page
3. If you already have an account with the BURS, enter your Username and Password to login and if you don’t have an account click on the “Register” button to be directed to the user registration page
4. Read the terms and condition of the BURS eService and under “Select Tax Payer Type” open the drop-box next to “Register As” and select if you are registering as an Individual citizen or Individual non-citizen
5. Upon selecting the taxpayer type, accept the BURS terms and conditions by clicking inside the checkbox and then click on the “Continue” button to go to the verification questions page
6. Enter the required details on the verification page i.e. Nationality, Date of birth, Identification type, Number, and the Security code
7. You will be prompted to send copies of your identification document and a copy of the e-service application form to BURS for e-filing through this email address: [email protected] or you can submit the required details in person to any BURS office
8. Obtain the e-service application form from any BURS office or download it through the BURS website:Link(APPLICATION FOR E-Services FORM)
9. Complete the form and attach a copy of your identification document then submit the form to BURS through their email address in step 7 above or personally to any BURS office
10. The application will be processed within one week and you will be issued your BURS login credentials
11. Proceed and login to your BURS e-service account
12. Once in your account proceed and complete the online registration form for company tax registration and submit your application
13. The application will be processed and you will be registered with the BURS and you will be issued a unique Business Tax Identification Number
