Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. The application to obtain a Cabin Crew Member license shall be made to the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) office. CAAB Contact Details
2. Applicants will be required to collect and complete the following forms, Application for Cabin Crew Member License Form and Application for an Aviation Medical Assessment form; also the applicant will be required to book an appointment for Botswana Air law Examinations. Forms are obtainable at the CAAB office, Personnel Licensing (PEL) unit or download them via the CAAB website, CAAB Airworthiness Application Forms or directly download them using these links, Application for Cabin Crew Member License Form , Application for an Aviation Medical Assessment
3. The duly completed forms, attached to the supporting documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, should be submitted to the CAAB head office, Personnel Licensing (PEL) unit, for consideration, only if the applicant is a holder of a valid medical certificate or after ascertaining that your medical assessment has been assessed as “fit” by the Civil Aviation Medical Board (CAMB). This will be certified in the Aviation Medical Assessment application form. Any omission of the required information or documents will render the application process incomplete.
4. Upon receipt of the application, the Personnel Licensing (PEL) officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified/corrected.
5. If the PEL officer is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the license, the application is registered for processing and consideration.
6. Applicants will be required to pay the prescribed fees as mentioned on the CAAB fee schedule, refer to the “Fees” section of this page, which is payable either in cash at the CAAB cashier counter/accounts office or by cheque in favour of the CAAB.
7. The applicant is issued with a payment slip and an acknowledgment slip as a proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.Applicants will then be required to take a Botswana Air law Examinations (Knowledge test and practical) with an appropriately approve Botswana Cabin Crew Member (CCM) Delegated Examiner.

   Please note that it is compulsory to be in possession of a valid identity document or passport to enter and attempt these examinations.

8. An applicant who fails a knowledge test shall be disqualified for further test until the applicant proves that he or she has gained a practical experience of one month.
9. Having successfully passed the Botswana Air law Examinations, the CCM Examiner will issue the applicant a completed and certified, CCM DESIGNATED EXAMINER (CCM DE) OVERSIGHT REPORT

   NOTE: This form is to be completed in full and must be initiated (signed) by the CCM examiner and submitted to the PEL office for processing.

10. Upon receipt of the CCM report, the PEL officer will forward the application file to the CAAB Director for the final decision.
11. Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the client in writing or by phone.
12. When all regulatory requirements for approval of the license are satisfactorily met, the Authority shall prepare and issue to the applicant the Cabin crew member License that shall be valid for a period of five (5) years, which indicates the approval scope and limitations.
13. While collecting the license applicants will be required to procedure their identification document, acknowledgment slip/approval letter, proof of payment of the prescribed license fee to be validated by the CAAB (PEL) office.
14. The applicant will be made to sign on the signature pad/book and will be issued with the printed License.

• Properly completed application form Application for Cabin Crew Member License Form
• A knowledge test report and/or skill test report conducted by a CAAB Designated Cabin Crew member Examiner.
• Two (2) color passport size recent photographs (full face).
• Valid identity document (passport/Identity card).
• The current Medical Certificate Class 2.
• A certificate issued by an Authorized Training Organization indicating satisfactory completion of the training, i.e.
  • Completed Initial Safety Training Course
  • Completed Operator Aircraft Type Training Course
  • Completed Aircraft Type Specific Training Course.
• Copies of their company’s competency booklet showing the ratings they hold, Safety and Emergency Procedures Training dates, First Aid renewal dates, drills dates.
• First Aid Certificate.
• Payment receipt of the prescribed fees.
• Any other additional documents requested for by the CAAB.

Note: All copies of attached documents should be certified by an advocate/commissioner for oaths.

Eligibility

An applicant for a cabin crew member certificate shall:-

• Be at least eighteen years of age.
• Be able to read, speak and understand the English language sufficiently to adequately carry out the responsibilities of a cabin crew member.
• Have completed a course of training approved by the Authority.
• Have passed the knowledge and practical tests within the last six months preceding the date of application.

Validity

• The validity of the Cabin Crew Member license is for five (5) years, the license shall remain valid for that period unless suspended, revoked, or cancelled by the authority.
• Applicants need to apply for license renewal to CAAB at least three (3) months before expiry.
