Apply In-Person

  1. You should contact the Registration and Licensing Officer at any of the Department of Road Transport and Safety offices near you, for more information on how to file the application with the department.
  2. Accurately fill in the application form (Form RTS 1 - Application for Initial Grand or Amendment or Renewal of Road Transport Permit) which can be obtained from the above offices.
  3. submit the completed form along with the required supporting documentation (as listed below) for verification and processing.
  4. Pay the application fee of BWP100.00 to the Registration and Licensing Officer
  5. On a schedule date and time, you will be required to attend Transport Advisory Board hearing and at this point that the decision would be made regarding your application.
  6. If approved, you will be required to take the vehicle to the Transport Inspectors for inspection. If inspection is failed, applicants must comply with Inspector's instructions to rectify any vehicle issues that may have caused the failure and reapply.
  7. If your vehicles pass the inspection phrase you will be issued inspection certificates.
  8. Then Take the inspection certificate and all of the other supporting documents to the Registration and Licensing Officer and pay the permit fee. Once fee is paid, the permit will be issued.

Required DocumentsEdit

  1. Copy of the vehicle's registration document (if available) otherwise proof of vehicle owner's financial ability (such as a bank statement or prequalification letter from a financial institution).
  2. Copy of vehicle's valid road worthiness certificate.
  3. Vehicle inspection certificate (only if permit application is approved by the board).
  4. Certified copy of applicant's national ID (Omang).
  5. Business plan.
  6. If applicant is a company: copy of certificate of incorporation, directors' national photo ID, and shareholders' certificates.

  • Application fee of BWP100.00
  • Permit fee of BWP100.00 (taxis), BWP130.00 (combis and omnibuses), and BWP210.00 (buses).
