Arizona - Apply for Substitute Teaching Certificate

ProcedureEdit

  1. Obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (AZDPS IVP) fingerprint clearance card. You may order an IVP application packet by calling (602) 223-2279.
  2. Complete an application.
  3. Mail the completed application form and all other materials to Arizona Department of Education-Teacher Certification (address provided below).
  4. Once received the Certification Unit will review your application to determine if you meet requirements.


Note: Certification fees will not be refunded even if you do not qualify for the certificate or endorsement you are applying for.

  • Completed Application for Certification.
  • A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER for the amount due, made payable to the Arizona Department of Education (ADE).
  • A photocopy of your valid AZ DPS IVP fingerprint clearance card (plastic)
  • Official transcripts (required for most certificates). Photocopies will not be accepted.

EligibilityEdit

Applicant must have a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.



FeesEdit

  • Certificate: $60

A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER for the amount due, made payable to the Arizona Department of Education (ADE). Fees are not refundable even if you do not qualify for the certificate(s) or endorsement(s) you apply for.

Cash will not be accepted.



ValidityEdit

A Substitute Teaching Certificate is valid for six years and renewable by reapplication.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A Substitute Teaching Certificate entitles the holder to substitute in the temporary absence of a regular contract teacher. An individual who holds a valid Arizona Teaching or Administrator certificate shall not be required to hold a Substitute certificate to be employed as a substitute teacher. The individual holding only a Substitute certificate shall not be assigned a contract teaching position and shall be limited to 120 days of substitute teaching in the same school year. Substitute teaching may not be used to waive the student teaching practicum.
