ProcedureEdit

  • The Council is responsible for ensuring that all Kenya Enrolled Midwives within its jurisdiction meet an acceptable level of competence before they begin to practice.
  • The licensure examination is administered to ensure that all Kenya Enrolled Midwives meet an acceptable level of competence before they begin to practice.
  • Applications for a Licensure Examinations are done online.

Apply Online

  1. A trained nurse who wishes to be registered and licensed as Kenya Enrolled Midwife (KEM) in Kenya, needs to sit for a Licensure examination. To do this , the trained midwife needs to make an application to the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) to sit for the licensure exams . The applicant can make the application online by visiting the Nursing Councils of Kenya Online Services Portal thorough the following link: NCK Online Service Portal
    • Make sure you are eligible to make this application. The “Eligibility” requirements are mentioned in the eligibility section of this page.
  2. Upon entering the portal’s homepage, log into your NCK online portal account, using your NCK students index number and password to make the registration application. If you don’t have an account, you have to create one to make the registration application.
  3. Under the “Register for Online Services” menu, input the required information.
    • Select “STUDENT” under the “SELECT CATEGORY” option.
    • Input your “NCK Student Index Number”
    • Input your ID Number
    • Input your email address
  4. Upon entering the required information for registration click on the “Register for Online Services” Tab.
    • This will cause a confirmation email address to be sent to your email address.
  5. Log into your email address and confirm your registration by clicking on the “Complete Registration” button, in the email which has been sent to you.
  6. Please edit your profile by adding your Personal, Academic and Professional details, Uploading your Photograph and Changing/Setting your password.
  7. Upon updating your profile, click on the “Exams” tab in the menu on the left pane , to enter into the next page.
  8. On the Exams , click on the “Exam Applications” button to enter the next page where you are required to provide information for your application.
  9. Please provide required information for licensing. These include:-
    • Email
    • Mobile
    • Practice type ( Select Enrolled )
    • Cadre/ course (Select Kenya Enrolled Midwife (KEM – Post Basic)
    • Choose examination center.
    • Upload the required documents.
  10. Confirm that all the information you have given is correct and click on the “Submit Application” button.
    • This will cause an invoice for payment of the application fees to be generated.
  11. On the Invoice page click on the “Click to Pay Now” button to pay for the Registration and Licensure Examinations.
    • Proceed to make the payment using the instructions given online. The payment instructions will be generated and displayed automatically in the portal. More information about the examination fees to be paid is given in the “Fee” section of this page
    • Note: Wait for approximately 10 minutes then refresh the invoice page. After refreshing the page, you should find copies of the receipt ready to be printed.
  12. Click on the “Download Receipt “ button to download the payment receipt .Print the receipt and license and keep it for future reference.
    • At this point the Nursing Council of Kenya officials will go through your application documents to verify their authenticity and if they meet the requirements.
  13. The applicant will be notified when the examination card is ready via telephone call and/or email after a period five days. The applicant can download a copy of the examination card from the NCK online platform.
    • The applicant will also be given a timetable showing the dates when the examinations will be held.
    • Print the examination card and timetable and keep them for future reference.

NB:

  • The applicant will be required to produce the examination card when sitting for the licensure examinations.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant should have completed a midwifery nursing training course in an accredited training school in Kenya.
  • The applicant should have two years of clinical work experience as a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or Kenya Registered Nurse .

Note

  • However , the Nursing Council of Kenya makes the final determination the applicants’ eligibility to write the exam by evaluating the applicants their conduct, academic and practical progress at the training school.
