Procedure

Apply In Person

1. To apply for the investment certificate, the applicant should make the application to the Kenya Investment Authority. Please view the Kenya Investment Authority contact details through this Contact Details.
2. Visit the Kenya Investment Authority office to obtain the application form for investment or download the application form through this Investment Application Form.
3. Complete the application form correctly and then write a cover letter addressed to the Managing Director Kenya Investment Authority and indicate the activities of the company.
4. Then the applicant should obtain all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below and attach the document and the cover letter to the completed application form in a single file.
5. The applicant should then visit the Kenya Investment Authority office and submit the application to the investor services department for free.
6. The officer in charge of the investor services department will receive and verify the application. Note: The application is free of charge.
7. Upon the verification process, the Kenya Investment Authority will issue the applicant the acknowledgment letter of the application.
8. Then Kenya Investment Authority will notify the applicant of the scheduled date of the visit inspection. Note that the Inspection is carried out to ascertain the existence of the company or project and the duration is taken to visit the premises is dependent on the availability of the applicant.
9. Once Kenya Investment Authority has completed the inspection of the proposed applicant’s project and ascertained its authenticity, Kenya Investment Authority will prepare the Investor’s license and issue it to the applicant.

• Investors in Kenya who have invested 100,000 USD for foreign investors and at least KES 1,000,000 for local investors are eligible to apply.

Fees

• The application is free of charge.

• The certificate is valid for a maximum period of one year.

Instructions

• An Investment certificate is issued once projects have complied with issues related to security, health, and environment.
• An investor registered with Kenya Investment Authority obtains an Investment Certificate upon request and proof of investment of at least 100 000 USD or its equivalent for a foreign investor and 1 000 000 KES or its equivalent for a local investor.
• The investor is entitled to three class D entry permits for management or technical staff and three class C, F, or G entry permits for owners, shareholders, or partners for a maximum period of two years.
