ProcedureEdit

This permit is issued to a person who intends to engage, whether alone or in partnership, in a specific business, trade, or consultancy in Kenya. The permit is known as Class GWork permit: ForSpecific Business, Trade or Consultancy-KEP/G

Apply Online
Step 1: Register with the Kenya electronic Foreign Nationals Services (eFNS) portal

  1. For first-time users, applicants will be required to first register with the Kenya electronic Foreign Nationals Services (eFNS) portal through the following eFNS Online Platform.
  2. Click on the Create an Account hyperlink to register.
  3. Applicants will need to fill in their personal information so as to register for an eFNS account For Kenyan citizens, you will need your national ID number while foreigners residing in Kenya will need your foreigner certificate. If you do not have a national ID or foreigner certificate, select other and use your passport details to register.


Step 2: Complete the Online Work Permit Application form

  1. Upon successful registering login to your eFNS account and under the Submit application tab click on “Submit New Applications”.
  2. This will direct you to the next page where you should make your next selection. Under the Permit and Passes Service Section, click on the “Apply Now” hyperlink in the Permit Issuance/ Renewal Tab.
  3. This will direct you to the next page; here applicants should read the instructions carefully, and click on the “Learn More” button under the Class G: For Specific Business, Trade or Consultancy (KEP/G) Tab.
  4. This will direct you to the next page; where you are to read the instructions carefully, make sure you have all the requirements to make the application, and then click on the Apply Now button which will direct you to the online application form.
  5. Fill in the online application form with all the required details and upload supporting documents as listed on the site, then click on the “save” tab to proceed to the next page.
  6. After Filling in the required details accordingly, click proceed button at the bottom left of this page for the next step.
  7. This will lead the applicant to the next page (PART II of Form 25) which is to be completed by investors, consultants, and self-employed applicants and all supporting documentation as listed on the site should be uploaded accordingly.
  8. Applicants should make sure their fill all the required details in this form and then click the “Save &Proceed” Button. So as to finalize the process.


Step 3: Payment of the processing fees

  1. Applicants will be directed to the next page where they can print their application form the system will auto-generate an invoice for the applicant to pay the process fees.
  2. Click on "Dashboard" then the "Payments" Tab and proceed to make the payment.
  3. Click on the “wallet icon” to make your payment via the provided payment methods. The processing fee is Ksh. 10,000 plus a 50 Ksh eService convinces


Step 4: Submission and processing of the application

  1. Print the payment acknowledgment receipt and the online application form, attach all the supporting documentation, and present them to the Investor Services Department at the Kenya Investment Authority Office for verification and processing.
  2. The applicant is then issued with an Investment Application Form to complete and then issued with an acknowledgment letter from Ken-Invest and a notification of receipt as proof of submission of the application.
  3. You shall receive automatic notifications via email and on your online account about the progress of your application.


Step 5: Payment of the annual permit fee and issue of the permit

  1. Upon approval of your application, you will be required to pay an issuance fee of Ksh.100, 000 by direct bank deposit and share the proof of payment with the eFNS. Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more information. This fee is to be paid annually for the renewal of the permit.
  2. After payment of the issuance fee, you will receive a notification on how to collect your permit through your eFNS account.

  • Duly filled and signed Online permit application Form 25
  • Signed cover letter from the employer/self/organization addressed to the Director of Immigration Services
  • Copies of the national passport
  • Two recent coloured passport-size photo
  • Current Immigration status if in the country
  • Valid organization Tax Compliance Certificate for new cases, and both valid organization and individual Tax Compliance Certificates for renewal cases
  • Documentary proof of capital to be invested of at least USD 100,000
  • Certificate of incorporation of the company
  • Memorandum of understanding Articles of association
  • Copy of PIN certificate
  • Signed current audited accounts(for renewals)


NB: Documents in foreign languages should be translated into English by either the Embassy, Public Notary, or authorized /recognized institution.

EligibilityEdit

An applicant who:-

  • Has obtained any license, registration or other authority or permission that may be necessary for the purpose of carrying out a specific trade, business or consultancy;
  • Has in his own right and at his full and free disposition sufficient capital and other resources for the purpose of carrying out a specific trade, business, or consultancy;
  • Whose engagement in trade, business, consultancy, or profession will be of benefit to Kenya.

ValidityEdit

  • The work permit is valid for one year from the date issued unless suspended, cancelled, or evoked by the Authority.
  • Applications for renewal of permits should be done three months prior to the expiry date.

  • Any kind of payment mode should be done through the applicable payment mode.
  • It is an offense for a person to knowingly mislead an Immigration Officer ( section 53 (1)(a) of Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, (2011)
  • Notification of approval shall be rendered null and void if the requisite fee is not paid within thirty (30) days from the date of approval.
  • Incomplete applications shall not be accepted.
  • Additional documents may be requested in addition to the ones listed.
  • All citizens of the East Africa Community (Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi) are exempt from payment of the processing and permit fee.
  • Where the holder of a work permit ceases to engage in the employment in respect of which the work permit was issued, the employer specified in the work permit shall, within fifteen days from the date of such cessation, report, in writing to the director that the holder has ceased to engage in such employment. Any employer who contravenes this regulation commits an offense.
