Apply In-Person
- To apply for a Firearm license, you should visit the Fire Arm Licensing Authority (FLA) office. Please view the contact details and map location of FLA head quarter and offices through this link: Link
- Then obtain the firearm user license application form at the reception of the FLA office in your location or form the FLA headquarter office, you can also download the application form from the FLA website though this link: Link and scroll to select “Application for licence, certificate or permit” alternatively, you can download the form directly via this link:Link
- Fill the application form in your own handwriting, providing all the required information. Note that you should not provide any false information while filling the application form.
- Then obtain all the required supporting documents for your application as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below and attach them to the form.
- Visit any of the FLA office auditing department and pay the application fees at the cashier either using your debit card, credit card or cash and obtain the payment receipt.
- Visit any of the Jamaica Revenue Department (Tax office) to obtain finger print receipt at a fee.
- And then go to the criminal records office to complete the finger printing process. Once the process is complete, the Criminal Records Office will indicate on the Fingerprint Receipt that the fingerprint process was completed
- Attach the finger print receipt alongside all the required documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below to the application form
- Then submit the complete application to the FLA office service desk in person or you can opt to send your application to the FLA using a registered mail
- An FLA official will receive your application and verify if it is correct and if it has all the required documents including the application payment receipt.
- Then the FLA will conduct a security and investigation procedure and record the results
- And then the interviewing officer and his supervisor will fill section L of the application form and forward it to the FLA board for approval.
- The board will review your application and results from the investigation then approve your application upon a satisfactory result.
- After the approval, you will be subjected to a firearm competence clearance and once you pass it, the FLA will issue you a Purchase order number for the firearm.
- The FLA will conduct a ballistic test on the firearm and record its data then avail the firearm for you to purchase.
- Upon purchasing the firearm, you will granted the firearm license and you will be required to visit a recommended dealers store to collect the firearm.

- Completed application
- Two (2) Passport photographs certified by a Justice of the Peace. NB: stamp should include the J.Ps registration number. Photographs are to be taken on white background.
- Two (2) recommendations from any of the following categories of persons; Minister of Religion (must be a Marriage Officer), Justice of the Peace, School Principal, Gazetted Rank Police Officer (not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent), Attorney-at-law, Medical Doctor or Resident Magistrate, Member of the J.D.F (Major and above), Member of Parliament. Recommendations are to be addressed to the Firearm Licensing Authority.
- Proof of Age (Passport or Birth Certificate. Original and Photocopy).

- Employed persons-Pay Slip or Letter from company employed to
- Self-employed persons / Business owners- a valid Business Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) and a valid Individual Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) is required where the applicant is a business i.e. a Company, Sole Trader or Partnership.
- Original and Photocopy of both the License Fee Receipt and Fingerprint Receipt MUST accompany the application package.
- Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and Jamaica Defense Force are to submit a letter from their commanding officer (to be enclosed in a sealed envelope).
Note:
- Recommendations and Authorization Letters issued more than 6 months prior to the submission of the application will NOT be accepted.
- All recommendations are to be addressed to the Firearm Licensing Authority and the applicant must be known to the referee for at least five (5) years.
