How to Apply

  1. There are several organizations responsible for inspecting goods on arrival in Jamaica depending on the nature of the goods, these organization include: Food Storage and Prevention of Infestation Division (FSPID), Plant Quarantine Division (PQD) and Ministry of Health (MOH).
  2. Contact the responsible organization for inspecting your commodity upon arrival to obtain the application form for import inspection. E.g., For PQD you will need to obtain and complete this form: Link
  3. Then obtain the Imports/Goods declaration form from the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) office or download it from their website through this link: Link (C86 - Goods Declaration Form)
  4. Complete the declaration form and prepare the rest of the supporting documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below
  5. Submit the complete application to the organization responsible for inspecting your goods according to the nature of your goods for example proceed food must be inspected by the FSPID, plants must be inspected by the PQD and food products must be inspected by the MOH inspectors
  6. The organization will receive your application, asses the goods declaration and the rest of the supporting documents including the application form
  7. After assessment, they will determine if your goods require inspection or not. If yes, your documents will be stamped “To be inspected” and returned to you and if the good don’t require inspection they will be stamped “Documents seen” and returned to you
  8. If your goods are to be inspect, upon receipt of your documents, advice the responsible authority of when the goods will be available for inspection
  9. Then the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) will generate an inspection list and send it to Other Government Agencies (AGOs) who will allocate an inspector to inspect the goods.
  10. The goods are inspected either at the port’s warehouse, cold storage or in your own warehouse
  11. If the good comply with the required standard, the import declaration will be approved for release and issued to you. Note that in this stage samples of the goods may be taken for testing depending on the nature of the goods and they must pass the test
  12. If the good don’t meet the required standard, the inspectors will recommend the next step to be taken either as, Re-export, Treatment or Destruction of goods
  13. If the good are salvageable, they will be treated and released to you and unsalvaged good will be distracted and you will be issued a disposal certificate
