Apply In-Person

  1. To get your document/s authenticated and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT), you should go to the Consular Affairs Department office under MFAFT: Please view the MFAFT contact details through this link:- MFAFT contact.
  2. Prepare the document/s you want to be authenticated and legalized.
  3. Visit the MFAFT office and pay the required fees at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt.
  4. Then go to the Consular Affairs Department office and submit y our document/s for authentication and legalization.
  5. The official at the Consular Affairs Department office will verify the document/s if they are complete as required by the MFAFT.
  6. Once the document/s is verified, the Consular Affairs Department official will authenticate the documents by affix the ministries stamp or seal of authentication.


Application Procedure for Abroad Residents

  1. If you are residing abroad, you should visit the Jamaica Embassy or Consulate near you. Please view the Jamaica embassies or consulates contact details through this link:- consulates contact
  2. Contact the embassy to confirm if you need to book an appointment for the legalization of your document/s or not.
  3. Prepare the documents you need to be legalized and visit the embassy.
  4. Pay the legalization fee according to the currency accepted by the embassy and obtain the payment receipt.
  5. Then submit your document/s to the legalization official at the service desk.
  6. The official will assess the document/s to confirm if they a complete correctly.
  7. Upon assessing the document/s the official will legalize the documents by affixing the MFAFT seal or stamp of legalization.

InstructionsEdit

  • The MFAFT can only authenticate or legalize documents that are executed in Jamaica.
  • Jamaican consular officers abroad can legalize documents originating abroad intended for use. in Jamaica, once they have been authenticated by the competent authority in those countries.
  • In the case of sworn statements or declarations, the person making such statement or declaration must first sign before a Justice of the Peace (JP) or a Notary Public (NP) resident in Jamaica.
  • All documents to be authenticated must bear the original signature, stamp, or seal from a Jamaican recognized organization or institution.
