ProcedureEdit
Apply In-Person
- To import Goods that are regulated by the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA), you should contact the NCRA office. Please view the NCRA contact details and location map via this link:Link
- Contact the NCRA through their email address to inquire about the required standard/s for the product you intend to import
- Then inform your supplier or manufacture about the standard product specification that must be met by the product to be allowed entry into Jamaica
- Obtain and submit samples of the product you intended to import to the NCRA for assessment if the desired import meets all the required standards or provide test results of the product from an accredited laboratory. Note that this should be done ten days prior to the product leaving the country of export.
- If the samples meet the required standards, inform the NCRA of your intention to import in a formal letter stating the estimated annual importation and method of quality control of the product, along with the warehouse address/es to be used by you in storing the imports
- The NCRA will issue you a pre-shipment clearance if the product’s test certificate or sample is compliant with the required standards.
- If the product fails to meet the required standard/s, schedule a meeting with the NCRA to determine if and how the product can be rehabilitated.
- Once everything is in place, proceed with the importation process and give a 24 – 48-hour notice before the arrival of the shipment in Jamaica by contacting the NCRA to arrange an inspection of the goods.
- Upon the arrival of the import, request for the import inspection from the NCRA. Please refer to wiki procedure: Jamaica-Apply for Import Inspection from the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA)
- The NCRA will hold the product for confirmatory testing and if the test results are found to be satisfactory, the product will be released after the necessary fee is paid by you
- If test results are unsatisfactory, and the products cannot be rehabilitated, the product will be disposed of or allowed to be re-exported after the fines are paid.
