Procedure

1. To apply for the ID card, you need to fill out an application form.
2. Submit the form and present a valid identification, you may present your driver's license or your passport. If it is not possible for the applicant to present these documents, he/she may need to bring with them a witness who can verify their identity to the authorities.
3. You also have to submit two passport photos, sized 3.5 x 4.5 cm. The photo must be taken recently and without any "enhancements" such as sunglasses, cap and hats.

Eligibility

Who may apply:

• Individuals aged 14 years old and up, registered as citizens of Iceland.
• Only those residing in Iceland can apply for an ID card.
• Foreigners are eligible to apply for an ID card after two years of continuous residence in Iceland.

Fees

Re-issuance of the National ID card: 3,300 crowns, to be paid upon submission of the application.

Validity

Explain the time until which the certificate/document is valid.
e.g. Birth Certificate Valid Forever

Processing Time
