Apply In-Person:
- A sowing (seed) farm can be registered by the respective assistant director of seed certificate.
- Contact link please click “Telephone Directory” option from the left part of the screen to get list of options. User shall select “Seed certification” icon for the list of options to get information. Please use the contact details from the link to find the contact information of the respective office to apply.
- Please visit the respective office.
- Meet the designated authority at the registration counter. The applicant shall get the advice from the authority to be followed to register.
- Please collect the application form or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
- Please complete the application form. Attach the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page along with the sowing report and submit (in 4 sets) it to the assistant director of seed certification / the designated receiving authority in person.
- Please pay the fees as advised and collect the payment receipt. Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more details.
- The application will be verified by the department to ensure that the application is complete and correct.
- The applications received will be registered. A unique identification number will be assigned.
- Please keep it safe for future reference.
- ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. So, keep track of the notification from the department.
- The application will be processed further. The application will be forwarded to the concerned seed certification officer for inspection of the farm.
- On a scheduled date, the seed certification officer will inspect the farm. The authority will scrutinize the details provided in the sowing report.
- During the first inspection of a seed farm, the seed certification officer will verify whether the seed used to raise the crop is from an approved source.
- Once the inspection and scrutiny is complete, the inspection authority will submit a report to the assistant director of seed certificate or the authority concerned.
- Based on the outcome of the inspection and verification process, the sowing (seed) farm will be registered by giving a seed certification number for each sowing report in 4 copies.
- Out of the 4 copies, one copy of the sowing report will be forwarded to the seed certification officer, one to the Deputy Director of Seed Certification and the third to the producer after retaining the fourth copy for record purpose.
- The status, viz. Approval will be conveyed to the applicant through a “SMS” or through applicable norms.
- The sowing report with the certificate number will be delivered to the applicant as per the applicable norms.
- This entire process can be completed in 15 to 45 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
- NOTE: The producer shall clearly indicate on the reverse of the sowing report, the exact location of the seed farm in a rough sketch with direction, distances marked from a permanent mark like milestone, building bridge, road, name of the farm if any, crops grown on four sides of the seed farm etc., to facilitate easy identification of the seed farm by the seed certification officer
- NOTE: The producer shall clearly indicate on the reverse of the sowing report, the exact location of the seed farm in a rough sketch with direction, distances marked from a permanent mark like milestone, building bridge, road, name of the farm if any, crops grown on four sides of the seed farm etc., to facilitate easy identification of the seed farm by the seed certification officer

EligibilityEdit
- The seed producer who wants to produce certified seeds are eligible to register a sowing farm.
- Separate sowing reports are required for different crop varieties, different classes, and different stages.
- If the seed fields are separated by more than 50 meters, separate sowing reports are required. Also, if the sowing or planting dates differ by more than 7 days and if the seed farm area exceeds 25 acres, separate sowing reports are required.
- The sowing report shall reach concerned assistant director of seed certification within 35 days from the date of sowing or 15 days before flowering, whichever is earlier.
- Registered seed producer shall apply.
- The seeds should be a notified variety.
- Also the field standards including the selection of site, isolation requirements, spacing, planting ratio, border rows etc. will be considered.

ValidityEdit
- The validity period shall be for per crop and per season basis.
- The primary purpose of registering a sowing farm is to satisfy specially the following:
- To know the previous crop grown on the same plot of land.
- To maintain isolation from all possible source of contamination.
- To maintain varietal distinguishable characteristics.
- Freedom from mechanical admixture with other crops, plants, objectionable weeds, etc.
- Freedom from certain designated seed borne diseases.
- The seed certification agency has the authority to reject the seed farm for certification on the following grounds:
- On account of inadequate isolation (either part or full).
- On account of the seed plot not conforming to the prescribed standards for any factor or contaminants.
- In case of seed plot where one third or more than one third of the seed crop is so heavily lodged making it difficult to take field counts.
- In case of late submission of application where the stage of the crop has crossed the flowering stage.

- Seed farms are taking up of seed production programme utilizing the breeder seed from the respective state department concerned and foundation seed from other seed farms.
- Any person, who wants to produce certified seed, should register the sowing (seed) farm in which the cultivation of seeds or transplanted crop is carried.
