Apply In-Person
- To obtain a birth certificate, the applicant will need to download and fill in the application form. Here is the contact link to the Nova Scotia official website Link
- Download and fill in the application form, use the following Application Form link.
- Call and make an appointment at the Vital statistics office, phone number can be found under the “Office Locations and Contacts” section of this page.
- Here is the address of the Vital Statistics Office: Maritime Centre, 5th Floor South 1505 Barrington Street Halifax, Nova Scotia.
- The applicant will have to make a fee payment, which is mentioned under the “Fees” section of this page.
- Submit the completed application form along with all relevant documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant shall receive their certificate by mail within 2 to 3 weeks from the submission of the application.
Apply Online
- The applicant will have to visit the official Nova Scotia Vital Statistics website, use the following Link.
- Select certificate type as “Birth”.
- Enter information relating to birth certificate such as surname, given name, sex, information about mother and information about father and click on “Next”.
- Select the kind of birth certificate the applicant wants and click on “Next”.
- Enter all details as and when prompted and click on “Submit”.
- The applicant will have to pay a fee by card.
- The applicant shall receive their certificate by mail within 2 to 3 weeks from the submission of the application.

- Make the payment by cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance.
- Send the completed application form along with all relevant documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page and fee receipt to the following address: PO Box 157, Halifax NS B3J 2M9.

- Alternatively, the applicant can fax the application to this number: 902-450-7313.

EligibilityEdit
- The applicant must be at least 13 years old to apply.
- The person should have been born in Canada and have their birth registered.
- The applicant should have had their birth registered in Nova Scotia.
FeesEdit
- The applicant will have to pay a fee of 33$ for the birth certificate with less information.
- The applicant will have to pay a fee of 39$ for a long-form birth certificate.
ValidityEdit
A birth certificate is valid forever and does not need to be renewed.
