ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. Any person/candidate who is interested/desires to carry out photography at the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) monuments for monetary consideration shall have to obtain the licence as appropriate. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) issues an advertisement / announcement offering Expression of Interest (EOI) for Photography Services at Excavation / Exploration / Conservation / Preservation Sites of ASI as per requirement.

  3. The eligible candidate shall contact the office as per the contact details provided in the advertisement, or they can use the contact details provided in the above link to consult with the concerned authorities for applying procedure.
  4. After getting the updated information, please arrange for all the relevant documents and certificates required for applying. Please collect the prescribed application form, as specified by the ASI or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
  5. Complete the application form. Attach the document as per the “Required Documents” section of this page and send it to the address as per the advertisement. The application can be sent through registered acknowledgment post.
  6. Please keep the postal acknowledgement safe for future reference.
  7. The submitted application will be shortlisted as per the department norms.
  8. Short-listed candidates will be notified as per the department’s norms for the further process along with place, date and time.
  9. On the scheduled date, the candidate shall make themselves available for the written test. Once the written test is over, the candidate should attend the practical and viva voce before the committee.
  10. The candidate must carry the originals of all the documents that were attached along with the application at the time of submitting the application.
  11. Based on the outcome of the above tasks, the department will finalize the successful candidates.
  12. The department will publish the list of successful candidates for the grant of licences as per norms within a specified period of time. The candidate shall follow the procedures as per the notification published by the department.
  13. Please contact the notified office as appropriate for a further set of actions.
  14. The applicant shall make the necessary licence fee as applicable as per acceptable mode. Please make the payment and collect the receipt. Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more details.
  15. The department will issue the licence along with the appropriate ID card. The licensed photographer will be known as the “ASI licensed photographer”.
  16. The entire process can be completed as per the timeline provided by the department or as per the notified period.


NOTE:
  • The licence issued is permission for photography in centrally protected monuments under the jurisdiction of ASI.
  • The ASI shall have the discretion to grant or deny such licence.

  • Copy of the proof of residence of applicant (Aadhaar card, passport, voter ID, driving licence or any such photo ID)
  • Self-declaration of the applicant
  • Bio-data of the applicant
  • Copy of educational certificate (10th pass or One year diploma in photography from a recognized institute) OR Five years of experience in photography in tourist places.
  • Copy of the birth certificate
  • Copy of police clearance certificate
  • Copy of Ration card / Voter ID / Passport (for proof of residence of the State in which the monument / site is situated)
  • Copy of domicile certificate
  • Aadhaar card


NOTE:
  • The applicants are advised to submit the self-attested photocopies of all the documents as appropriate.
  • Apart from the above documents, the authorities may ask for additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

EligibilityEdit

  • Applicant should be a citizen of India.
  • Those who are 18 years and above are eligible to apply.
  • Experience in photography at tourist places is mandatory as per the time period.
  • The applicant with minimum educational qualification of 10th Pass and one year diploma in photography from a recognized institute Or Five years of experience in photography in tourist places.
  • The applicant should have clean police record and should not have any pending criminal case.
  • The applicant should not have been convicted / penalized in the past.
  • Preference shall be given to the local candidate.
  • The applicants should follow the eligibility criteria provided in the advertisement.

InstructionsEdit

  • Based on the foot-fall, popularity, growth potential, extent and size of the monuments, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) determine the number of licensed photographers for each monument or a group of monuments.
  • No licence will be granted to any company or firm or association of persons or society or any other body of corporate.
  • The applicant must enclose all the respective documents while applying. The department won’t allow any applicant to submit any additional document/s as such proof at a later stage.
  • The licence will be cancelled if any information being found to be false in later stage, without prejudice to any other applicable law.
  • Do not submit fake documents as a proof to get the licence.
  • Incomplete application will be rejected.
  • Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • No one is allowed to take a photograph of the protected monuments for monetary consideration, unless they hold a specific licence or permission from the concerned archaeological officer.
  • The ASI will issue a licence only to those candidates who had successfully completed the selection process. This will be helpful in providing skilled photographer at these sites for serving the visitors.
  • The licensed photographer will be provided with the ASI prescribed rates and charges to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
