Purchase a driving recordEdit
License eXpress Account
If you have a License eXpress Account you may log-in using your computer, smartphone or tablet to process your request. If you do not have one, you must create an account then wait for the confirmation email to activate your account.
Pay for the driving record with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express debit or credit card (no gift cards).
Print a copy of your record, or email it to yourself. (Email available only in License eXpress)
Request Online
You will need:
- Washington State driver license or ID card.
- Social Security number - last 4 digits.
- Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
- Adobe Reader to view and print your driving record.
- An email address and/or printer.
The driving record can be:
- For mobile phone/tablets - Emailed only.
- For computers - Emailed or printed.
- Send Request Online
- After youve paid for a record, its available for 24 hours.
- Print your copy.
- If you need it sent to someone, please request it by mail.
Request by Mail
Complete a Driving record request form and mail the completed form along with a check or money order payable to Department of Licensing to:
- Driver Records
- Department of Licensing
- PO Box 3907
- Seattle, WA 98124-3907
It will take about two weeks for your request to be processed.

Request in Person
- Go to a driver licensing office.
- Bring your photo ID.
- Pay the fee.
Purchase another persons driving recordEdit
Attorneys
Attorneys may purchase a complete record by sending a request with all of the following:
- $13 for each record (check or money order made payable to the Department of Licensing).
- A written request in one of the following formats:
- A Driving Record Request completed and signed by the driver, including the address where the driving record should be mailed.
- A letter on the law firms letterhead, indicating that you represent the driver and including the drivers full name, date of birth, and mailing address.
Law, justice, or other government agencies
Law, justice, or other government agencies may request a complete record by sending a written request by mail.
Employers, prospective employers, or their agents
Employers, prospective employers, or their agents may purchase an employment record by sending a request with all of the following:
- A Driving Record Request completed and signed by the driver, including the address where the driving record should be mailed.
- $13 for each record requested (check or money order made payable to the Department of Licensing).
Insurance companies or their agents
Insurance companies or their agents may purchase a 3-year noncommercial insurance abstract, a 3-year commercial insurance abstract, or a 3-year life insurance abstract by sending a request with all of the following:
- $13 for each record (check or money order made payable to the Department of Licensing).
- A written request in one of the following formats:
- A Driving Record Request completed and signed by the driver, including the address where the driving record should be mailed.
- A letter on the insurance companys letterhead that includes the purpose for requesting the driving record (commercial, non-commercial, or life insurance) AND either the drivers Washington State driver license number OR the drivers full name (including middle name or initial) and date of birth.
Transit authorities or their agents
Transit authorities or their agents may purchase a volunteer vanpool driver record by sending a request with all of the following:
- A Driving Record Request completed and signed by the driver, including the address where the driving record should be mailed.
- $13 for each record (check or money order made payable to the Department of Licensing).
Volunteer organizations
Volunteer organizations may purchase a volunteer for organization driver record by sending a request with all of the following:
- A Driving Record Request completed and signed by the driver, including the address where the driving record should be mailed.
- $13 for each record (check or money order made payable to the Department of Licensing).
School districts
School districts may purchase a school bus driver record by sending a request with all of the following:
- A Driving Record Request completed and signed by the driver, including the address where the driving record should be mailed.
- $13 for each record (check or money order made payable to the Department of Licensing).
State colleges, state universities, and local government
State colleges, state universities, and local government units authorized to self insure may purchase a driving record for employment and risk management by sending a request with all of the following:
- A written request on the organizations letterhead that includes the:
- Drivers Washington State driver license number.
- Drivers full name, including middle name or initial.
- Drivers date of birth.
- Email address where the driving record should be sent. (All driving records are sent by email.)
- $13 for each record (check or money order made payable to the Department of Licensing).
