  1. Read Your Guide to B.C.'s Enhanced Driver's License Program: http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/edl-eic/edl-guide.pdf.
  2. Confirm you meet all EDL requirements.
  3. Book your application appointment using the EDL Online Booking service at icbc.com or through the EDL Customer Line at 1-866-972-6888. How to Book Appointment: http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/getting-licensed/edl/edl-book-appt

  5. Attend your appointment at one of ICBCs designated EDL driver licensing centres to complete your application. EDL Driver Licensing Locations: http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/getting-licensed/edl/edl-eic-locations
  6. Once you receive your enhanced card, activate it online or by phone within 30 days from the card activation date printed on the letter you receive with your card.

  • your original birth certificate or Canadian citizenship document,* and
  • one other piece of ID

Note: When renewing an EDL, a passport is not accepted as proof of Canadian citizenship.

You must be a previous holder of an enhanced driver's license.



FeesEdit

A fee is charged for a normal driver's license (or B.C. identification card), plus for the enhanced version.
Note: Additional fees may apply in some circumstances.

  • 2-year original license or renewal

Normal DL fee: $31
Enhanced fee: $35
Total fee: $66

  • 5-year original license or renewal

Normal DL fee: $75
Enhanced fee: $35
Total fee: $110

  • Seniors' (drivers aged 65 and over) 2-year original license or 5-year renewal

Normal DL fee: $17
Enhanced fee: $35
Total fee: $52

  • Replacement EDL for address change, name change, lost or stolen card

Normal DL fee: $17

Total fee: $27

  • Upgrade your driver's license (DL) to an EDL outside renewal period (includes seniors 65 and over)
