Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for Residential Building Contractor License in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest office of the British Columbia Housing.
2. Address and contact details of the office can be found in the following Contact link
3. Visit the office and obtain an application form for Residential Building Contractor License from the relevant department.
4. Make sure that all the documents in the “Required Documents” section of this page are available.
5. Complete the application as per convenience, attest it with signature and attach the required documents with the application form.
6. Then, submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office. The applicant has to pay 600 dollars as license fees as cash or through credit card or pay later.
7. Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
8. On completion of the review, the office will inform the applicant through phone number or email to collect the License.

1. To apply for Residential Building Contractor License online, the applicant has to visit the following Apply online
2. If the applicant already has an account in the portal, they can enter the user details in respective fields and click “Login” button, to enter into the portal.
3. If not, the applicant has to click “Start a new licence application” link at the bottom. Read the notice that appears and click “Ok” button.
4. Read the information present in the next page and click “Start Application” button. Application form with required sections and fields will be opened.
5. The applicant has to complete each step one-by-one with required details and click “Next” button, after providing the details.
6. Complete all the sections and finally provide the signature after confirmation. Then, complete the payment of 600 dollars, required for the license by following the on-screen instructions.
7. Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
8. On completion of the review, the office will inform the applicant through phone number or email to collect the License.

Eligibility

• The applicant should have a nominee who has successfully completed a recognized training course in each of the seven core competency areas.
• The nominee should have 24 months experience managing or supervising residential construction within the last five years.
• The applicant must not have contravened the New Home Buyer Protection Act.
