Procedure

By Mail

1. Review the renewal application notice you have received.
2. Complete, sign and date the renewal application form.
3. Return the application with your payment in the enclosed envelope to:
   Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles
   P.O. Box 26506
   Richmond, VA 23260-6506
4. Wait for about 15 days from the date of your request for your renewed driver's license to arrive by mail.from the date of your request for your renewed driver's license to arrive by mail.

In Person

1. Go to DMV near to your place of residence.
2. Bring necessary documents.
   1. Expiring license
   2. Renewal notice
   3. Proof of legal residence
3. Pass the screening test.
4. Make the payment.

Apply Online

1. Go to the VA DMV Website.
2. Fill the necessary information required.
3. Pay the fees using a valid credit card.
4. Your license will arrive through mail 15 days after.

Validity

Instructions

• You can renew a driver's license as early as one year prior to the expiration date on your license.
• The DMV will send you a renewal notification prior to the expiration date of your driver's license, or you can opt to receive an electronic renewal reminder.
• You must always update your current address.
• You may renew your driver's license every other renewal cycle by mail unless your license is expired, suspended, revoked, or you hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Need for the Document

Just like any of your existing permit, your drivers license need to be renewed. Though it may not be annually renewed. But the moment that it is due to expire, be vigilant to have it renewed before its actual expiration date.
