Apply In Person (Both Citizen & Non – Citizen)
- To apply for Single Status Certificate, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – link
- The applicant has to visit the office with the request affidavit letter.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the fee as per the authority’s request.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. #If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS.
- The applicant will receive the certificate through mail or by visiting the office.
- This entire process can be completed within 2 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit
- If you are planning to marry in another country, you may be required to obtain a Certificate of Non-Impediment. This document has many different names such as Declaration of Non-Impediment to Marry, Statutory Declaration of Single Status, Affidavit of Intended Marriage, Statement In-Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad, Certificate de Coutume, a Certificate of No Impediment, Certificate of Nulla Osta, Certificate of Freedom to Marry or just free to marry.

- The authentication fee is $30 each document.
For rush service,
- Additional fee of $50 for the next working day processing,
- $35 for the 3rd working day processing will be charged.
ValidityEdit
- Valid for 6 months from the date of signature after that it expires and the applicant will have to apply for a new one

- When you submit the document to embassy/consulate or secretary of state, please indicate the document will be used in China. The document should be authenticated. Apostille is not recognized in China. It should be Authentication instead of Apostille.

The Single Status Certificate (also known as: Affidavit of Single Status, Certificate of No Record of Marriage, Certificate of No Impediment, Single Status Statutory Declaration, Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage, etc). This is intended to show that you are not currently married.

- China doesn't have a Single Status Certificate which can be provided by the government. In this scenario an affidavit has to be created stating that you are single.
