ProcedureEdit

If the application for renewal is made previous to, or not more than 30 days - after the date of expiry of the licence, the renewal will be made with effect from the date of its expiry.
If the application is made more than 30 days after the date of expiry of the licence, the renewal will be made with effect from the date of receipt of proper application. In such cases a sum of fee will be realised.
Apply In-Person

  1. To renew your driver license in Chandigarh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to.
  2. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.
  3. Please make sure you have all the required documents to process the application
  4. Application Forms No9, No 1 A is required. Application forms can be obtained from the following link : Application forms
  5. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying
  6. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  7. Present the completed application forms along with required documents in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  8. If the driver license renewal authority is satisfied with the application and the documents submitted, the driver license will be renewed.

  1. To renew driver license, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
  2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
  3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
  4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
  5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
  6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.



Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
  2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  4. The operator will process the application online.
  5. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
  6. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any, will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
  7. If verified, the renewed license will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying in a stipulated period of time.

EligibilityEdit

  • An application for renewal shall be made not more than one month before the date of expiry of the license.
  • If the application is late for more than five years after the date of expiry of the license, the applicant should undergo all the formalities to obtain a fresh license.

ValidityEdit

  • License to drive a Non-Transport Vehicle is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the holder attains the age of 50 years, whichever is earlier. After that, the License is renewed every 5 years.
  • Transport Vehicle License is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue or renewal.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • As per Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a valid Driving License is necessary to drive any motor vehicle on public roads
  • Government has enforced validity for Driving license. Whenever the validity of driving license lapse or the period for renewal is attained, then the application for renewal has to made in respective RTO.
  • This renewed driving license will be considered as a proof of residence
