ProcedureEdit

Applying process in Guernsey for citizen and non citizens.

a. Apply in-person
  1. Police Clearance Certificate can be applied at “Guernsey Police Disclosure and Vetting Unit ”.

  4. Go to the respective office. Don’t forget to take the required copy of documents along with originals to the office.

  6. Application forms can be also be obtained from the respective office on visit. Please follow as per authorities guidelines and submit the completed application along with documents. Applicant should pay for any charges if required as advised.
  7. This application will be processed by respective department.
  8. The certificate can be collected from the office where applicant applied in-person or will be delivered through mail upon notification or issued as per norms.


Applying process – overseas for citizen and non citizens.

a. Apply through mail(post)
  1. To Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate, the applicant has to approach the Federal Police Guernsey – link
  2. The applicant has to visit the office with the request letter.
  3. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. or it can be downloaded from the following link – link
  4. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  5. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  7. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee of £20.
  9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  10. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  11. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  12. The applicant will get the police clearance certificate through mail.
  13. This entire process can be completed within 4 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit

  • Age: 16 years and above. In case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 16 years.
  • The current address of the applicant must be same as in the passport and other supporting documents.

  • Criminal record checks are a means of employment vetting and are available according to the type of employment sought.
  • Basic police checks can be obtained from Guernsey Police, and higher levels of checks (Standard and Enhanced) can be obtained from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) via the Guernsey Vetting Bureau. Need for the DocumentEdit

A police certificate is an official document issued by police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may or may not have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings.

A Basic Disclosure is a copy of all unspent convictions and cautions recorded on the Police National Computer and local police systems. You may be asked to apply for one by an employer/prospective employer.

Guernsey Police is committed to providing individuals with access to their personal data. It is recognized that this can be for a number of purposes. These are outlined below.

Basic Disclosure

Required for employment purposes, a Basic Disclosure comprises all unspent convictions and cautions. You apply for a Basic Disclosure in person at the Disclosure & Vetting Unit, C/O Guernsey Boarder Agency, New Jetty White Rock, St. Peter Port between 9.00am and 3.00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

You will be required to complete a form that will ask for your name, previous names, address and date and place of birth. You will be required to provide a form of photographic identification and there is a fee of 20, payable by cash or cheque.

The Basic Disclosure will be sent to the address on the form within 4 weeks.

Subject Access Request

Under Section 7 of the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2001 individuals can ask whether any information is held about them by an organisation and request a copy of that information. This is known as the right of subject access.

Subject access can be used to obtain a full copy of your convictions and cautions or can give you access to other personal data we hold such as specific incidents involving yourself.

You can make a Subject Access Request either in person at the Disclosure & Vetting Unit between 9.00am and 3.00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

You will be required to complete a form that will ask for your name, previous names, address and date and place of birth and to select what information you require. You will be required to provide a form of photographic identification and, if submitting your request by post, a copy of a utility bill or bank statement along with verified copies of your ID. The information requested will be sent to the address given on the form within 60 days.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

In many immigration cases you may be requested by relevant Government to present Police Clearance Certificate from another country where you have resided for some time. If you are going through immigration process, you will definitely be asked for such a certificate.

Sometimes people who intend to work abroad or in highly sensitive establishments also require reports of good behavior, especially from the police, before they are allowed to work.
