ProcedureEdit

  1. Go to the police station.
  2. Fill out a dilosi (statement of facts) that states your intention to cancel and issue a replacement ID.
    1. If your ID was stole, you must present evidence of this fact and give a statement under which it occurred.
    2. If it concerns a name change, bring documentation to show facts.
  3. Surrender or hand over your current Greek ID to the police.
  4. Pay the stamp tax.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • a certified Greek birth certificate of travel document that shows your surname/name and your father's name
  • a Greek passport (as secondary identification)
  • two recent black and white photographs (size 3,6 * 3,6 cm)
  • letter of request supplied by the Police Department
  • Certificate of Nursing or Healthcare Foundation Laboratory for blood group and RHESUS (if you wish to display in your newsletter)
  • proof of residence
  • alternate name identification of applicant (if applicable)
  • a document stating your blood type, issued by a private doctor (optional)

There is no expiration date. But the Ministry of Citizen Protection says it must be replaced every 15 years.

Processing TimeEdit

It may depend on the police stations. Some can issue the ID just a few minutes right after the documents have been provided. Others may take a few days for the issuance.

  • According to the Ministry of Citizen Protection, a Greek Identity Card must be replaced if any of the following apply:
    • information of the ID card has changed
    • your ID card doesn't contain Latin letters
    • it is worn or damaged
    • it has been 15 years since your current one was issued
    • it has been lost or stolen
  • You need to bring a witness if:
    • information on your ID card has changed;
    • you are updating your Greek-only ID to a Greek ID with Latin letters
    • it has been 15 years since your current one was issued
    • you are a minor and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
