Apply In-Person:

To Renew a Passport in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Ghana Visa Application Centre (VAC) or Ghana immigration service office. Refer to the following contact link
Then, the applicant must obtain the application form from Ghana Visa Application Centre (VAC) or the Ghana immigration service office.
Fill up the application form. Do not forget to affix the applicant's right thumbprint and sign the form. Please avoid making erasures on the form, erasures may result in the applicant’s application being rejected. Exercise extreme caution in completing the forms as mistakes cannot be corrected once the passport has been issued.
Also, make sure that the applicant has all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
Submit the completed application form along with all other required documents in person to the nearest Immigration office in the applicant’s locality.
Ask the Immigration officer in charge to examine all submitted documents and check to see if the application form was duly completed. Inspection of documents must be done in his/her presence.
The date of collection of the passport shall be written on his/her payment receipt.
Between the immigration office and the passport office his/her application will be processed for the issue.
His/her passport shall be ready for pick up within 30 days upon submission of the application form and all other required documents.
Collect the applicant’s renewed Passport in person from the District or Regional Immigration Office in his/her region.
Generally, the processing time for this procedure is taken 3-15 days.

Required DocumentsEdit

Application form
A statutory declaration or sworn affidavit on the circumstances surrounding the damage of the passport or the reason for renewal.
A duly filled passport application form.
Money order or banker’s cheque.
Applicant’s current passport.
A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your passport (s). The envelope should have enough postage for FedEx, Express Mail, Certified Mail, or Priority Mail with delivery confirmation (NB: UPS, Metered stamps, and Regular mail are not acceptable).
A valid Ghana National Identity Card of the applicant Original and Photocopy).
Birth Certificate of the applicant (Original and Photocopy).
In case of a child or person with a disability. Written consent from the parent(s) or legal guardian.
Three copies of passport-size photographs (size 2"X 1.5").of the applicant has taken not earlier than 6 months from the time of application, which must be taken full face without headgear.

EligibilityEdit

If the applicant’s Ghanaian passport has been mutilated, full, about to expire, or has expired, then the applicant has to apply for a new passport. Applicant must be qualified for the issuance of a Ghanaian passport at the time of renewal.

FeesEdit

Expired/filled up passport;

A series: 32 pages GHS. 4,500
B series: 48 pages GHS. 6,000
C series: 64 pages GHS. 7,500

Mutilated passport;

GHS. 10,000 (payable by Bankers cheque)
This fee must be paid in cash or by banker’s cheque and an official receipt issued.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains information about the holder; like name, gender, date, and place of birth.
This document does not in itself entitle the passport holder entry into another country, or consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allow the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued. A right to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.

Information which might helpEdit

If applicants have used up all the pages of their passport and damaged their passport, the applicant may request for a new passport to be issued. Attach the old passport when the applicants apply for a new one. In case of a damaged passport with a valid visa, apply for a new passport and then to the Embassy concerned for a replacement visa.
Change of Name/Status of a holder of a passport can only be applied in the Passport Office by the director of Passports. Do not tamper with your passport or insert the names of your children yourself.
