Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Apartments License in Ghana, the applicant must go to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) office ministry of works and housing.

3. Then, the applicant must obtain the application form from the AMA office.
4. Applicant has to enter all the information in the application form.
5. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. A fee has to be paid as per as authority’s request.
7. Submit the completed form in two copies along with the supporting documents to the respective office.
8. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the authority.
9. If the authorized official is satisfied that all the conditions are meet as required for the application, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
10. After seeing this notification, the applicant must go to the NPA office and applicant gets their renewal certificate.
11. Generally, the processing time for this procedure 10 working days.

• Application form
• To submit an apartment application, applicant may need the following items: Driver’s license, identification, pay stubs, proof of residence, bank statements and rental history
• Non citizens can still rent apartments but may need a few extra documents
• New owners: Provide proof of ownership in the form of a recorded deed or a settlement sheet. L&I will not accept an agreement of sale or a receipt of sheriff’s sale.
• Owners who live outside Ghana: Identify a managing agent with a Ghana mailing address on the application. The agent is responsible for interfacing with L&I. The owner will be listed as the license holder and bear legal responsibility for the license.
• Company-owned properties: Provide the name and mailing address of one of the following:
• Each individual with more than 49% interest in ownership of the property
• The two individuals with the largest interest
• Business income and receipts Tax ID
• Commercial activity license
• Lead safety certification
• Proof of legal occupancy
• Tax and code compliance
• Fees receipt
