Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. ToObtain Molasses Permitin Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Agriculture and Food Authority Board Head Offices.

3. Visit the office and get an application form as applicable to your requirement, from the respective department.
4. Make sure that his/her have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
6. For applicants who are livestock farmers and traders. They should submit the duly filled application form to their local administration office (Chief or sub-chief) and the livestock officers (County or sub-county) for endorsement before submitting the document to the Sugar Directorate offices.
7. Industrial manufacturers and exporters should just attached the relevant documents and submit it to the Sugar Directorate’s offices.
8. Submit the completed application form and pay the required application fee and submit the receipt as proof of payment.
9. The permit processing fees is payable in advance on submission of a completed application form. Payment of the processing fees shall not be a guarantee for issuance of a permit.
10. The sugar directorate will review the application and inform the applicants of the success or otherwise of the application using the applicants’ postal address within 28 days after the closure of applications
11. Once the license processing is done the applicant can collect their Molasses permit from their respective Sugar Directorate’s offices.

Eligibility

• Qualified applicants including registered industrial manufacturers who require molasses in their processes, livestock farmers, registered traders and registered exporters are eligible to make this application.

Fees

• The permit processing fees is charged at GHS. 400.00 Per tonne per month up to 10 tonnes, and GHS. 200 per tonne for amounts above 10 tonnes up to a maximum of GHS. 300,000.

Validity

• Valid for a period of twelve months from the date of issue.

Need for the Document

• Molasses permits is issued to qualified registered industrial manufacturers who require molasses in their processes, livestock farmers, registered traders and registered exporters.
• One need a molasses permits to handle large quantities of molasses in Ghana.

Information which might help

• The quantity of molasses requested by each applicant shall be in line with the size of business to which the molasses is intended.
• The application for permits by all livestock farmers and traders shall be made through the local administration and livestock officers.
• The permit processing fees is payable in advance on submission of a completed application form. Payment of the processing fees shall not be a guarantee for issuance of a permit.
• All imports and exports shall be subject to licensing in accordance with the sugar and by-products (imports and exports) regulations.
• The Sugar Directorate shall base its decisions on the national molasses stocks and distribution and the long-term interest of the sugar and related industries when issuing molasses permits.
• The Sugar Directorate shall endeavor to inform all applicants of the success or otherwise of their applications using the applicants’ postal address within 28 days after the closure of applications in each year. The decision of the Authority shall be deemed to be final.
• If unsatisfied, applicants may appeal to the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture in writing within 28 days of the decision.
• If unsatisfied with the outcome of the appeal the applicant(s) shall be free to seek arbitration through the Sugar Tribunal.
• All permits issued shall expire on 30th June each year.
