ProcedureEdit

  1. Go to the Drivers Service Center.
  2. Submit a completed Minor/Teenage Affidavit and Cancellation (Form SF-0259).
  3. Present proof of your school attendance (Form SF-1010) from your school. This form is only valid for 30 days. If you already graduated, present your GED or high school diploma.
  4. Provide 2 documents to prove TN residency.
  5. Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency.
  6. Show primary and secondary proofs of identity.
  7. Show your Social Security number OR a completed Social Security Number Affidavit (Form SF-1324), if you do not have one.
  8. Pass your vision test.
  9. Pass the written knowledge exam.
  10. Pay the $10.50 learners permit fee.

  • If youre a new TN resident with a valid out-of-state learner's permit, you must meet all of the GDL requirements to obtain a TN learners permit or drivers license.
  • To apply for a Tennessee learners permit, you must be at least 15 years old.
