Apply In-Person:
- Applicant has to approach the Register General Department in Ghana and the applicant can get their application form for tax identification number (TIN) contact link
- Applicant will be provided with either of the following application forms depending on the type of TIN he/she want to register.
- Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
- Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page. Pay the appropriate fees where the officials would start processing your application.
- Complete the application form and attach the required documents before submission to the revenue officer.
- Attached all documents need to be attached to the application before submission.
- Once the application for Tax Identification Number is made and submitted, the applicant will wait for not more than 14 days.
- The TIN can after be collected from the designated office after the 14 days.

- Visit the register general department (RGD) website: link
- On the RGD portal home page click on “service page will be displayed”, click on “Business Registration with new TIN” under the business section.
- The service page will be displayed.
- Enter the “business entity name” and select “search type” and the characters displayed in the Captcha box, then click on “search” button.
- The computer system will display the search details immediately.

Step 1: Create Temporary Credentials
- Visit the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) portal through the following Link
- This will direct you to the Temporary Credentials Creation Stating Page
- Fill out your First Name, Middle Name and Last Name exactly as on ID Card (if you do not do this your registration will fail)
- Enter you email twice - the system will check for errors to make sure that the same email is entered both times. Make sure that the address is valid and accessible otherwise your registration will fail.
- Enter Password - it must contain at least 6 alphabetical and 1 numeric characters
- Select ID Card type
- Enter ID Card No
- Wait while ID card is checked against online database.
- If your ID card is valid a success message will be displayed. Otherwise please check that you have entered the card details correctly and retry.
- Click on the "Add" Button again and load a scanned copy of your ID document - this must be good quality, in colour and saved in pdf, jpeg or gif format and no more that 1mb in size.
- Select the scanned file and click 'Open' and Click "Upload" and click Register
- Wait while the Request is submitted
- Once the name, email and ID have been validated you will receive a Success Message. If you wish you may click on the button to view or print a copy of the submitted details
- Wait for system generated email, this will provide information on the registration process. The email will include a link to follow to progress to Sep 2 of the TIN Registration.
Step 2: TIN Registration
- Follow the URL contained in the email received at the end of Step 1
- Fill in the Email and Password (please note that these must be the ones that were registered during Stage 1) click Register.
- You will proceed to the TIN Registration Details Pages. Fill out the various Tabs, at the end of each Tab click on "Save and Proceed": These tabs include
- Individual Summary
- Personal Details
- Tax Information
- Identification Information
- Address Details
- Employment Details
- Contact Details. As this is the final page please press “SUBMIT “once you have completed filling it.
- After providing the entire details above, click “SUBMIT”. You will receive a success message saying your submission was successful and has been sent for approval by a revenue officer, you will be notified when your registration has been completed
- It should take a day or two but not more than 14 days.
- Note: If you have used an NIA Card then TIN registration is automatic and you will receive an email notification within a minute or so. Other types of card require a GRA officer to vet your documentation before a TIN is issued. In all cases, your TIN Certificate must be picked up from your nearest GRA Office.

- Taxpayer Identification Number can be obtained by all the persons liable to pay taxes to the Ghanaian government. These include employees, employers, organizations, sole-proprietors et cetera.
- Any Ghanaian above the age of 18 years.

- Anyone who earns taxable income in Ghana.
- Anyone who wishes to clear goods in commercial quantities from any port or factory.
- Anyone who wishes to register a title or other documentation relating to land.
- Anyone who requires a Tax Clearance Certificate.
- Anyone who wishes to register a business/company at the Registrar Generals Department.
- Anyone who requires a Permit from a District Assembly.
- Anyone who intends to receive a payment from the Controller and Accountant-Generals Department.

Here are some of the services you would need to use your TIN for in Ghana
- To clear any goods in commercial quantities from any port or factory.
- To register any title to land, interest in land or any document affecting land.
- To obtain any Tax Clearance Certificate from the Internal Revenue Service, Customs Excise and Preventive Service or the Value Added Tax Service.
- To obtain a Certificate to commence business or a business permit issued by the Registrar-General or a District Assembly.
- To receive payment from the Controller and Accountant General or a District Assembly in respect of a contract.
- Supply of any goods or provision of any services to register for the Ghana Card with the National Identification Authority.
